I don't know much about purchasing groceries because we do not cook while on vacation. But in Grand Case try LeBounty for Deli & desert items.Grand Case restaurants are usually empty by 9:30PM in recent yrs and you shouldn't have trouble with reservations.Becarefull of the crazy drivers on SXM. They will pass cars, cut in front of your car traveling up hills without knowing if a veh

Remember the U.S. is in a terrible recession and SXM is suffering from lower tourism. Many restaurants & bars are having problems because they're are too many of them and the EURO.Also business will be in worse shape during low season.I wish you luck but you may have problems not speaking the local language too.

Denis,Your probably right.I was told on TTOL its just a college. I though someone there might be able to point them in the right direction. The OP said they were purchasing Skymed too.We knew of a couple on their honeymoon yrs ago and she became very sick. AA refused to allow her to board the plane. This couple paid $30,000.00 for an EM private plane to Miami from SXM.Luckily they had CC's to

Thanks. When we passed by last Dec I also noticed it wasn't open.We passed by in the afternoon not at night. I heard last Feb they sold to the owners of a restaurant close by on the same side of the road.I'll be passing it everyday when we arrive next week and I will know for sure.

Ti Bouchen is a very good restaurant and MOMO is a wonderful host.Rancho del Sol on the hill near Orient was good when we were there last Feb. Its not as popular as GC restaurants. I can't comment on the other restaurant but I don't recall seeing it last yr.If Au Gain de Sol in the Cul de Sac is open its a good restaurant with less expense prices.I heard it was sold so it might not be o

Maybe they should purchase an OLD BUS and find a beach where it could be made into a bar.Or purchase an OLD BOAT and operate another bar/lunch place near the airport.I would try it if I lived on island and couldn't find work in my trade.

Feb is sunny and warm without much humidity.Water temps a little cooler than previous months. Only twice during the 30 yrs we've been staying on SXM during Feb. Pres wk we had stormy weather for an entire week.

During Feb Pres wk 1994 we stayed at the St. Tropez/Palm Ct.Across the main road was a small enclosed area where they offered breakfast. This was before Orient Village was built and the road down from the traffic circle. When we ordered eggs for breakfast the waitress told she would return in about 15 minutes. To our surprise she told us she drove to a hen house for the mornings supply of eggs.Tho

Barbara, Yes, AA knows travellers want to stay over the weekends and its a holiday in the U.S.Monday the 16th.Plus Pres weeks is the second most expensive period of winter season. The hotels, rental cars, and the cost of original purchase for TS is higher during that time.

Marc, I just checked those dates and it shows about $406.00 a ticket for n/s 667 & 660.That is Monday -Monday travel

I just checked AA'S price for our dates. The n/s 667 is full and not shown so a connection threw Miami is required. Our return flight 660 still has seats open. and the cost is $1070.00 PP.

Marc, Pres week is the last 2 weeks. This yr Monday the 16th is a holiday in the U.S.We paid about $650.00 each for our AA n/s flight midweek arrival& Sat return. That fare is the highest we've paid in 30 yrs traveling to SXM during Pres wks.I booked last June when gas prices were very high. That $306.00 price is less than the amounts I paid 20 yrs ago for Pres wks.I used to pay $350.00 on

Maybe that $450.00 is a decent price I'm not sure. I noticed the Pelican rentals have a similar 2 bedroom were much less money. But it may depend on time of yr too. When we used to stay at LaHabitation our Marina Suite was about $450.00 a night too. There was a kitchen but could only sleep 4 IMO.At least breakfast was included. HaHa

Barbara,That rate of $450.00 a night is the amount we paid at the Esmeralda & LaHabitation during the late 80's & 90's in Feb.Since rates haven't changed much for 20 yrs I guess SXM is a bargin.

Anyone remember the golf bar at Mullet Bay yrs ago.Was it called the 19th hole? During one of our stops there for a drink in the late 80's.We meet someone who lived about 3 miles from us on L.I.He brought with him his own bottles of Vodka because he was afraid SXM wouldn't have his favorite. He paid the bartenders $2.50 a setup to make his drinks. Only on SXM.

I guess the writer forgot about the airfare to SXM during winter high season, it ain't cheap! The $450.00 a night hotel rate isn't cheap either. Its hard to find cheap place during high season.

I've posted many times about David's and Wed. Trivia night and having his Beef Wellington. Those were the best DAYS on SXM. Another favorite of ours was ZACKERY'S for the best RIBS ever on SXM.When having dinner in Peg Legs Pub I always look for DAVIDs restaurant sign above the door.SXM will never have times similar to the DAYS again.Remember when you could see the water in SB from

We will miss the party we arrive on the 12th. I was curious as to where the bar was located.Oyster Pond/Dawn Beach area has really changed over the last few yrs.I haven't spent much time exploring the area since my first visit during the late 70's.I remember when the Oyster Pond Hotel was in that location and not much else.

IMO, part of the problem were the rates charged per night. They're rates were about $250.00 a night during low season and $350.00+ winter high season. Many other nicer hotels with better beaches, rooms, and location.

HERTZ tried to charge us when we wasted a vacation day filing reports for tailights stolen from their car.IMO, I didn't have to file any reports but figured it was the right thing to do.When I saw that they didn't automatically credit my bill when I returned the car.I had to argue with them to remove a days rental charge because we certainly couldn't use the car.I told them I'

Barbara, Thanks, I agree but thought they were funny. Didn't people bet on their favorite. If they were at Little Bay I guess I remember the races from staying there.I'll bet the odds were better than at the casino. HaHa. Only in SXM......I think we should be called longtimers instead, right.
