Barbara, I flew on Air Florida, Trans America, Pan Am, AA, Eastern Airlines and charter planes but my favorite airplane was the DC-10. Maybe you remember in the early 80's the Eastern plane that crashed threw the fence and ended up across the road in the water. The plane couldn't stop in time at the turn around area and no injuries among the passangers.I'm pretty sure the DH had the

Pat, I remember being angry that we had to pay to leave the island that first trip.I was thinking after all the money we spent on Little Bay Beach Hotel accomodations, airfare, food, car, taxi's and purchases now they want another $5.00 unbelieveable. ......Hey, Remember when returning to JFK the AA flight stopped in Antigue (sp)and then on to NY.

Barbara,I guess that the first plane watching from the bar/restaurant on SXM.I agree it was great to be out there and seeing the DC-10's & Airbuss's landing & taking off.I really miss that section and the inside part too. Even though the cashier tried many times to pad our bill with an extra $10.00.He always had the checks next to that calculator on the desk for show.Several ti

John/Vicki, This purchase had NOTHING to do with RCI.I purchased threw the management someones unit & week who needed to sell.I can't trade with RCI because my purchase has nothing to do with that company.I deal directly with the manager of the complex. On occasion we've been able to use Maggie's RCI membership to add vacation days to our purchased week. We haven't had much

Anon, As I stated I didn't purchase with RCI and we're not interested in trading. I prefer our location in Anse Marcel. We also prefer Pres week period for our vacation time.I don't have to worry if the time we want or place isn't available similar to the RCI experience. I'm happy to be locked into that time and place.I don't feel its half the benefit because I alwa

I purchased my French side time share for Pres week directly from the owners/management. I notify them directly and not thru RCI or whatever. Yes, the management company is connected to RCI. But our purchase has nothing to do with RCI and any changes I need I contact the management.Since the ts units are limited I purchased from a couple who wanted to sell that week and live in Paris. The manageme

Joh, Maybe I'm missing your point. You stated it appears people who prefer the French side are not returning.Over people who prefer the Dutch side. My point was many who spend most of their time on the French side actually are owners of Dutch side time shares so I can't see how its lopsided.

Hey John, I think you are seeing more people who normally stay on the French side not returning because they DON'T have to.As you may know time share is very popular on the Dutch side. I feel most regular Forum members first discovered SXM and continue vacationing there only because of time sharing. Many of us who prefer the French side aren't interested in time share ownership and are

I remember the car rental situation changed once or twice. During our first trip 78 we reserved a car at the airport and it was delivered to our hotel. Then a few yrs later the car had to be delivered because the TAXI drivers complained about lost income. Also for a while the cars had to be returned to a car return lot across from the airport. The rental company rep was supposed to meet the renter a

We'll be returning Nov/Dec again as usual. We have our Feb trip set unless we are robbed or attacked during our first trip. The last 3 yrs we've been victims of the crimewave that's over taken SXM.Credit card fraud, car parts stolen and car breakin but no physical violence yet.IMO, its just a matter of time before everyone becomes a victim of the crimewave. We're taking more da

We didn't care for Barbados and didn't like our hotel experience. The manager kept us waiting outside for well over one hr until I figured out what he was up to.We were very tired and wanted to checkin and get settled. He was stalling guests outside the hotel to film a promotion video for the hotel. He didn't ask anyone if THEY were interested in being filmed either. After I gave hi

Remember when Grand Case restaurants had 2 seatings a night at 8:00 & 10:00.Tourists still needed reservations or you couldn't get into most popular places. How about the original BBQ buildings (LOLO'S) and the cooking drums in the road. Also two way traffic before the by-pass rd was built.Who else remembers when rental cars HAD to be DELIVERED to your hotel.

Bar de la Mer wasn't built until the late 80's & that photo is well before that.Pizza Hot isn't shown and it was in business there before the bar.I don't think there was much for tourists to buy in those DAYS. I find it strange how traffic seemed to move faster before the Harbor rd was built.I'm searching for the MINI Club building but it appears to be further down on

Barbara, Thanks for posting the pictures from the DAYS.I remember during the late 70's & early 80's many of the buildings were shuttered and appeared empty for years. Many business's were open by the harbor but not on the main entrance rd.We always parked where the cars are in your photo when we were in Marigot.

Philippe, I remember Joseph the bartender who worked at beach bar in the afternoons. Also the casino dealers that DIVI fired when they purchased the hotel went to Mullet Bay Casino to work. That was a wonderful hotel experience before DIVI instigated buffet breakfast & dinners.I recall the restaurants around Mullet Bay Beach Hotel had men wearing jackets. I saw someone a few yrs ago walkin to r
