Barbara, Those are the colors I was thinking about. Not bad after 30 yrs, right!I can't believe how many times we walked and drove past the Cafe. And across the street was my favorite place Portofino's. How is your she coming along with the book about Mr. Booker(sp) I know wrong name but I'm close I think.I loved talking with him in that alleyway to the restaurant.I'll never

Philippe, I think its a picture of the area past Grand Case because I see an area that reminds me of Anse Marcel to the north point of SXM.

I guess it is the Atrium. The photos are from after PdP was built. I recall they began construction in the late 80's. We used to pass PdP on our was to LaHabitation in Anse Marcel during those DAYS.

My guess is 60's to early 70's.At first I thought the tanks were in Point Blanche. The area behind the tanks looks similar to before the Oyster Pond Hotel was built by Dawn Beach.

Good guess I see the wind sock too now that you mentioned it. Its probably the beach where the Boat bar is located down to where the Maho is.I recognize the sand stone hills by the curved road across the street. Its the beach area that the hotels use now, right?

When we stayed at Mullet in 81 I remember seeing mostly sand between the airport and the entrance to Mullet.I purchased a watch from the lobby jewelry store at the hotel in the photo. The roof top section is under the canopy on the right side. To me the photos look as though they were taken at the same time.Perillo was sending tour guests to Great Bay Hotel in those yrs until it closed.

Bruce, Yes I agree. I asked about them because I noticed they had new bicycles and figured they were a new group adding additional protection.Bicycle police can get to areas a car patrol can't.Lets hope they travel to other areas besides around LePub in GC. HaHa I saw several in Orient Village one day last Feb too. Lets hope they are effective in deterring crime.

Philippe, Great news and much needed help. They also need more help at HQ to take crime incident reports from tourists.During our 2 week trip at the end of Feb we saw BICYCLE POLICE around GC and the by-pass rd areas. Do you know if they are still being used or are certain groups working only during winter season.

Anyone remember the Carib music Bands (metal drums) that used to play in back of the terminal building when tourists came out of the planes.Remember when it took 15 minutes to drive from Front st to the airport.

I remember when construction began for PdP and after it openned. It wasn't as popular as they expected. That lot across from the stores made parking a pleasure in that area. Now we need a picture of the area before the stores were built and Casino Royale when there was only sand.

IMO, that photo of the rooftop section is from the late 80's & early 90's. I heard the rooftop section closed after the hurrician (95).Those pictures are from 83 and older because I see the new ticket clounter addition on the right side of the terminal building. As I recall the addition to both sides of the terminal began in 82 and completed in 83.On the other side they added the imm

Phillipe, Thanks for posting the photo's. I 'am pretty sure they are from the 80's because I see the new ticket counter addition to the terminal building on the right side.I also loved the roof top section of the airport restaurant. That was the original plane watching area while enjoying a few drinks. Many of us used to have lunch up there waiting for our planes to land. I always

Barbara, Do you have a picture of the airport before the ticket counter addition was added to the right side of the terminal building around 1982.And the immigration/luggage section addition to the other side.It would be a picture of the airport from the 70's.The rental car companys were located next to the entrance of the terminal I recall. For us it had real carib airport feeling.Thanks.

Barbara, Yes I can understand how difficult it was for residents sometimes. As a visitor it was a totally different experience for us.We knew being in a hurry wasn't going to make it faster. Or expecting to call at a certain time wasn't possible. We figured out not to worry about time and enjoy ourselves until they made the connection on island time.HaHa

Barbara, I was thinking about how wonderful it used to be only having Lands Radio telephone service. And those wonderful ladies that handled all the international & local calls.Compared to now with recorded computor calls annoying people everyday to purchase something. No call lists and salespeople cold calling your phone while having dinner, etc.Back in those DAYS it was normal for a long d

After seeing all the hurrician pictures they reminded me of when Orient Village wasn't built and the road ended at the round about.Only sand from the circle to the beach and no other hotels close by.Many more trees on the beach for shade and smaller beach bars. Also when the Cul de Sac rd was just a dirt road down to the boat dock.

Maybe they should check the new Radisson for Feb. Its not a high rise because its on the French side. It should have security and guards at the entrance gates. As you know only minutes from Orient, Pinel and GC.good luck
