Barbara,Yes I meant the eruptions in Aug/Sept 97.I was on SXM for a short 5 day trip staying at the Pelican.I couldn't believe how much ash accumulated when my car was parked overnight.

Who else remembers brushing the ash off your rental cars, and chairs from the volcano eruptions in 97.Also AA's flight from JFK was limited to 3 days a week because low tourism.

Phillippe, I agree the forum only represents a small number of travelers to SXM.Every trip I meet people who have been vacationing for many yrs on SXM and never heard of SXM forums.........As for deals you have to do a little detective work. There will be plenty of LAST MINUTE deals on air & hotels during the winter season too.Compared to yrs ago SXM the room rates are a bargin now.good luck

Phillippe, I'm guessing the photo was taken from The rd into Anse Marcel. Isn't the old hotel located before the entrance rd and Villa Pizza (sp) is across from the entrance rd to Anse Marcel.Anyway its still a great photo and view from the hill rd.We also love seeing from the rd Orient, St. Barths & Anguilla everyday we're on vacation. Every year we take a photo of ourselves f

wendyk,I'm glad you found what you needed for your condo. The inside of the rooms we stayed in had furnishings similar to black iron tables & railings.Orange/brown floor tiles & heavy wooden roof beams that popped loudly when the sun warmed them.Besides the furnishings the pool had a heavy coating of suntan lotion in the water. The water actually felt greasy and nothing was done to r

Barbara, Do you remember where & when there was Crap races. How about when the traffic light was working by the Midass shop.Thankfully the GOV. turned it off after a yr or two.Remember how much worse the congestion was in that area from the light.Strange how everyone managed to drive threw Grand Case before the by-pass rd was built in 90.The drive time from Orient to PJIA still took less t

Sorry you were ripped off on SXM and by the airline workers. In the last few yrs we've been vacationing on SXM. I've been feeling as though they want to turn us upside down and shake every penny out of our pockets before letting us leave the island. We've been crime victims 3 times during the last 3 yrs of trips(6).We will continue to vacation on SXM and see how the trips go.good lu

I'll never forget yrs ago stopping in at Sabastiano's around noon to make a reservation. When I entered the original section the back door was open.I looked outside in the rear of the building from the front entrance area. Barbara, I hope to send a few soon. I need Maggie send them from my computor files when she has a chance.Talking about Little Bay Beach Hotel(70's) I remember being suprised to see in the garden rooms the old style water closet toilets.Guests had to pull down a chain connected to the overhead water box to flush the toilet. ......Remember when there was only sand and no buildings between the

I remember those VAULTED CEILINGS very well. When the sun would heat the roof they expanded causing a loud BANG each time one of the beams moved. It was very disturbing having to listen to that banging noise all day.Plus I recall the pool water had a greasy feeling from suntan lotion. The only thing I enjoyed was the food buffet there. That hotel wasn't worth the money they charged tourists.

Many rob & steal because they feel its easier than getting a real job.Robbing & stealing money & property started way before drugs became a problem.IMO, if more CRUISE SHIP PASSANGERS were robbed or attacked in town or on the beaches. The GOV. offices would take more action to stop crime. The criminals have no fear of punishment or of going to jail.No wonder there's an increase in
