Pat, Why not bring your own and the right stuff you preffer incase SXM is missing an item.I met a woman on 667 AA who cared her families entire Thanksgiving Day dinner down with her she prepared the night before. They stayed at the Pelican for their vacation period during the 80/90's as I recall.Maybe its worth a trying for your selves. W, I'm glad you weren't disappointed with SXM and the Anse Marcel area and the Radisson Hotel. We've enjoyed staying there and in the original hotel since 86/87.Many of the same hotel staff are still there today.I agree Villa Pizza in the Cul de Sac is a good quick location for Pizza and dinners.I also agree on your choice of a new home......Bob

About 18 yrs ago during Pres wks we stayed one wk at LaHabitation & one wk at the St. James Club on Antigua. In those DAYS AA 667 first stopped at SXM and then onto Antigue and back into JFK. 95% of tourists got off at SXM and on again for their return back to N.Y.We used Lait or other local carrier into Antigua and made our return from Antigua back into JFK.Remember Antigua is a different sty

Cindy, The island had less tourists this winter season than previous yrs because of the recession, etc.GC restaurants aren't as busy as yrs ago either since the EURO began & cheaper Dutch side restaurants.SXM now has a different type of tourist and younger. Most aren't interested in the fine French restaurants and prefer cheaper places. Its sad to watch GC decline over the past 10

Cindy, Very nice report and thanks for posting. The beach should have been uncrowded because during summer low season the Domaine Hotel is closed. The Radisson used to be LaHabitation Hotel and we stay their from 87- till it closed in 06 during Feb.We loved staying at that hotel during the DAYS when it used to be totally booked during winter season. LaHabitation used to close for the summer seaso

Remember before the bar they're was a pizza restaurant called Pizza Hot.Thanks Neil for remebering its name. How about the sunken dining area before they covered it over.We really enjoyed the original Bar de la Mer during the late 80's and early 90's.

Don't forget how Marigot Harbor looked before it was filled in. The boardwalk in Phillipsburg was constructed on land fill, too.Certain hotels like the Pelican have man made beaches which changed the shore line.

Norbet, IMO, I doubt they will have a problem finding a hotel during high season. Many are having difficultly renting rooms this past season. When I talked with the mgr of the Radisson last Feb he told me less than 40% of the rooms were rented.

Many tourists discovered traveling to the carib islands during the 70's & 80's instead of staying in those hotels. We used to vacation at some of the other known hotels during the 50's & 60's.Air travel became available to more people and a younger crowd didn't want the same style of vacations as their parents enjoyed. When we were ready for our real first vacation
