it was taken a long long time ago.
next time you pass on Back Street, look at the upper floor. It still looks the same.
here is the location from another photo.
You can just see part of the building on the right side of the lower picture..

It STILL IS a beautiful island! Much has changed, not all for the good, but there is still a great deal of beauty there.

Georgia, I'm in agreement with you. Nothing stays the same forever so we must adjust! We may not like the changes but c'est la vie! My favorite sight is driving from Marigot towards Grand Case/Orient. Right as you get over the hill in La Savanne the view is from the Heavens. Nothing will change that!!>grinning smiley<

The views of the ocean will never change - MAN can not put up a buliding there - maybe an oil rig.

There is nothing quaint and caribbean left on the island. NOTHING.

High rises, paved and shoddy, at best, roads. Population out of control with illegals and those ready to reap anything from the touristing visitors.

SXM has become a dime a dozen as a tourist stop. Really far from being anything special.

Explore OTHER caribbean islnds with a departure fee of 5 bucks - what is it now to GET OFF this paridise - 35 - 45 buck. Get real.

I did not experience the times on the island when these pic were taken, Came somewhere in between these pix and today. Got tired of the crimes (against us and others) and the ungodly work to get to the GREAT places on the island. I'm on vaca, and for the price for getting there and staying there, I shouldn't have to work to get to a place to relax.

St. Martin has become MUCH, TOO MUCH work to enjoy a reasonable vacation.

Yes the ocean views can change. It's called dredging. Remember before the cruise ship pier? 30 days of dredging in Nov. and voila land for a cruise ship pier.

SXM??? Wendell

Don't forget how Marigot Harbor looked before it was filled in. The boardwalk in Phillipsburg was constructed on land fill, too.Certain hotels like the Pelican have man made beaches which changed the shore line.
