Day time activities on St.Maarten/St.Martin
Have twice the fun in the sun! After reading the great things you can do on the island, you might feel like packing your bags!!
There are endless possibilities, from golf to deep sea diving. I will start off with golf...........
Golf There is a great 18 hole championship golf course at the Mullet Bay Resort. Surrounded by water and palm trees. Just watch out that you don't hit the ball in the water, you might have to go diving for it.............
Diving and snorkeling The crystalline waters surrounding St.Maarten/St.Martin allow for clear visibility up to 100 feet, and often up to 150-200 feet. Coral reefs are teeming with marine life. Certified scuba divers can rent tanks and equipment at watersports shops around the Island. Courses for advanced and novice divers are available. If you prefer snorkeling, a mask, fins and snorkel only costs a few dollars a day. Pick up a free snorkeling guide or get rentals at the Scuba Shop in Oyster Pond or Simpson Bay. We enjoyed diving with Ocean Explorers, located on Kim Sha Beach, behind Toppers in Simpson Bay. While diving look out for those sailors...........
Sailing Ever dreamed of sailing in the America's Cup? On St.Maarten you can find out what it feels like to be a crew member on a 12 Metre America's Cup Yacht. The Regatta lasts approximately two and a half hours. For more info see 12metre.com.
Windsurfing If you're thinking about windsurfing you should definitely go to Orient Bay Beach, the most popular beach on the Island for sailing activities. Orient Beach lies on the northern part of the French side on the Windward Atlantic coast. The possibilities are endless here: flat water sailing; swell and chop sailing between Green Key and Pinel Island; speed runs to Pinel from Club Orient; or wave sailing in the reef at Green Key! Where to rent: Orient Watersports, Tropical Wave Watersports, Windsurfing Club Nathalie Simon, Trade Winds Dive Center. Tired of surfing try serving ...............
Tennis You will find lots of tennis courts on St.Maarten/St.Martin. Every Hotel has its own court or has made arrangements with a neighboring resort. There is also a Tennis and Fitness Center in Dutch Cul-de-Sac. And if you want to take a hike ..........
Hiking Bart Welch recommends the following: "For a little bit of a work out, I recommend the Lotterie Farm hike. Bj, the tour guide, takes you to the top of the highest mountain and leads you down narrow paths and rocky footsteps. At the bottom you are greeted with fresh water and depending to the time of day, you will get a snack. In the morning, a croissant, or some fruit in the midday. Overall the Lotterie Farms eco-hike is a must do for sports enthusiast or a nature lover. I recommend being in Ok shape. Call to make reservation 24 hours in advance at 590-878616. The minimum I believe is 2 people for a price of $25/person. The hike is approximately 2 hours."
