Then you would have to eat elsewhere and not in the hotel restaurant. We are talking about yrs ago before SXM was discovered and TS began. Most hotel guests paid for MAP or EP food plans. They ate just about every meal at the hotel. The island wasn't as casual as it is today.

Another must do is use PLENTY of SUN SCREEN while on the beach or walking in town. The sun is much stronger in the carib than in the states. I've seen many tourists ruin their trips because they knew better.

IMO, August & beginning of Sept are too hot & humid for us.The most popular time frame is during the winter months when temps range in the 70 & 80's and lower humidity.Everyone has their favorite month to be on SXM.Don't worry about businesses being closed because 95% will be open.Have fun.

I agree Oro Diamante is very good and excellent prices. Speak to Raju he is the best. They will build your diamond ring while you wait. They have several locations in town but deal with the store near the Court House same side. good luck.

It always shows a little rain because it usually does rain a little at night. You can't worry about the weather unless a storm is near by or a hurricane.I see island tour busses from the cruise pier dropping tourists off at one or two of the beach bars. Don't worry in low season there is less tourists on the island.

Anon, I stayed at Little Bay Beach Hotel until DIVI chased away the annual guests with TS sales. We stayed there from 78/79 thru 86/87 when DIVI purchased the hotel and started renovations. We weren't notified before arriving and many of complained about the construction going on.Myself and others refuse to stay at a hotel during construction.DIVI offered us a free week the following Feb but I

Make sure you lock up at night while your inside.Do not leave any items in your rental car or in the trunk wherever you park.Even if its only for a minute!!!!Unfortunately car breakins are very common in recent yrs.Glad you decide not to change your plans. good luck.

GaKaye & Pat, Sad but true and as both of you know PP'S is not a beach bar restaurant..... Remenber when men HAD to wear a jacket in restaurants. I remember wearing a jacket in the casino at LBBH yrs ago.How about all the luggage and garment bags tourists used to bring. I'm happy those DAYS are gone but SXM has certainly changed and been discovered.

A few yrs ago we watched a couple walking into a restaurant(PP'S) in bare feet.We noticed they were seated and nothing was mentioned.Right or wrong???

IMO, do not change your plans about staying on SXM. If you feel you now need a more secure place to stay book a large name hotel. I don't know if you will be able to get your deposit returned if cancelled. My opinion would be stay where you originally booked. Our check the Radisson, Westin, or call a travel agent. good luck....P.S. Please let us know how your vacation was with a short trip rep

Sorry, but didn't you know all islands have problems before you booked. Of cource there are breakins like everywhere else in the CARIB but you can't worry about it all the time. Most tourists do not experience crime problems during their vacation. Good luck.

You can't think of SXM as having the same police force as in the US. You will be in a different country with different laws and type of enforcement.SXM has developed a crime problem just like the other islands, it has been discovered in recent yrs. What exactly do you need to know about law enforcement, it is what it is.Thousands of tourists from around the world enjoy their vacations on SXM

Thanks for your report. I agree the boat bar is nice place to hang for a few drinks. I don't care for the SCRATCHOFF sales people taking all the parking spots and bothering tourists.Bill & Elaine are great people to know and our recent trips wouldn't be as good without them.Nice picture. Bob

When we had items stolen off our car AM EX paid us back the $940.00 2 months later.IMO, your CC should cover the charges.Last Feb at the Pelican guarded level parking our car locks & doors were damaged. This is not an unusual problem on SXM and our new rental company didn't charge us.I insist on French plates and still have problems.good luck.

IMO, you won't have a problem. Also in recent times most restaurants are empty by 10:00PM.Most tourists are usually back at their hotel or TS after dinner and not driving around the island.

There have been incidents of tourists being followed in their rental cars and robbed in recent yrs. If you think your being followed or another car bumps yours do not stop. Drive to a safer area or to your hotel before getting out.As said before SXM does have a serious crime problem and tourists have been robbed. I'm sure you will not have a problem but act as you would at home. good luck...

Hey,SXM has a crime problem similar to everywhere else in the world. Its not recommended tourists display large amounts of jewelry or money.

$100.00 should cover a nice lunch but if you intend on ordering a bottle or two I'd take more $$$$$.When you park near the dock do not leave anything in your rental car that could be stolen.Do not leave any items in the truck, too.It doesn't matter where you park your car on SXM. Do not leave any items that could be stolen.Have fun.
