Good news for the French side and..Oyster Pond smiling bouncing smiley

It is not 34 additional Gendarmes but 73 who arrived yesterday on the island!!! And 18 of them will be permanently stationed in Oyster Pond to ensure the safety of the area, the other will spread out around the other "hot spot" of the French side...
So from now on, Capt Oliver's will do 18 additional Breakfasts, Lunch and Dinner daily, another touristic attraction beside our "live aquarium" since visitors of the island will be able to come and watch, as they do at the Pub in gd case, our "French Military men dress in blue"...>grinning smiley<

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Good News Philippe. Thanks. Just don't overfeed them so they can't run and chase "the bad guys".

Philippe,

This is excellent news for all of the island and while it may mean gendarmes for the French side I would hope it also means the Dutch will be equally aggressive and their numbers will be equally large. We can only hope, right?

Be positive, Bob. We have to hope they're going to be on island for as long as it takes to get the job done and done right.

Thanks for posting, Philippe. This might have been missed by many if not for the heads up.

Respectfully,

pat

This first group is supposed to stay until the end of July, then they will be replaced by a group of 80 until september, then... we'll see! It's a begining, and it is a good one. They are determined to do some cleaned up, and talking with the Colonel, they are amazed how the population was eager to have them here and how welcome they are... They are not used to that, usually French people don't like the Gendarmes, because they represent a "State's autority" and French people do not like "any" autority in general...LOL

Kind Regards,
Philippe

It's a good start. I must say that I don't feel very comfortable traveling in that area at night. Hopefully the roads will be patrolled better. I rarely see any police presence at night over there.

Wonderful news and a great start.
Great to see the French side being so proactive.
Wish some of them would stay longer and get to know who the trouble makers are and who the regular goof balls are.
Good news.
Cheers
