First of all, unless you have an EU passport you will have alot of trouble getting a job. And that's only on the French side. On the Dutch, you will not be able to work. I don't personally know of any cheap places on the island. Sorry.

Thanks Ed. I thought they were villas. Thought they were last on the list to be finished.

Kevin B. Not trying to pick a fight here, but I have a question in case you know the answer. If they buy their supplies on the Dutch side, why are their prices (for the most part) so much higher? I just have never been able to get my mind around this. Any BTW - we also enjoyed Tabba Khady!!! Excellent recommendation.

Supposedly December 13th. If it opens, it will be a nasty construction site.

When you get there, buy Mosquito Milk. Better repellent than any we have found at home.

When you get there, pick up a copy of K-PASA. It is printed weekly and has listing of all the goings on, including live music, for the week.

Easiest drive to Orient would be from DIVI -IMHO. All the choices are ok. No beach at Summit (but they do have the wonderful Kissing Fish Bar) or Flamboyant.

There's no customs on SXM when arriving by plane unless you are a resident. Only immigration. If you are shipping things, I would expect your shipper could answer those questions.

So long as you book directly with Delta, if the price goes down for your exact itinerary you should get a refund on the difference.

Best deal to rent a phone is from Sharon Harris. Free WiFi at many places. Shrimpys, Bikini Beach Bar, SSBB...

No, you can't swim in the lagoon. Try Turquoise Shell Inn or Les Balcons

Great place. Nice folks, very good inexpensive food. The free wifi is a bonus. We go several times during our visits.

Don't know. I always fed-x it. But I think getting snail mail to the island is VERY slow.

623. Re: Buses
You'll be fine with the buses. So long as you don't need them during the evening or night and are not on a strict schedule.

In January or February I find I need just a light coverup in the evenings. A light cotton long sleeve blouse or jacket stays in the car just in case. May or August, I don't bring it.

It all depends on when you BOUGHT the ticket, not when you flew. USAir started including the departure fee in their tickets ABOUT a year or less ago. Can't remember when.

Yes - departure tax is included on USAir tickets - unless you bought and paid for them about 1 1/2 years ago! It was my guess on the sleigh, milk and cookies. And even tho I lost the bet, it sure was fun!
