181. Re: When
With all due respect, Recent Return, since this post, much like the original one you're referencing, seems to be purely in the interest of being contentions and slamming the island, that probably has a lot to do with why your original post was removed by the moderators. As others have already noted, there is crime everywhere and if you compare SXM to many of the other Caribbean islands, i

Adam, I have to agree with Neil - the Grand Case Beach Club is a great choice with kids. They have a small pool, a great restaurant on premises and what I've only known to be a calm beach that should be good for kids. Other places you might want to consider would be the new Radisson on the St. Martin side of the island - the beach there is one of the cleanest and calmest on the island

Bingo!! Barbara, once again you've hit the nail right on the head and they who perpetrate this treatment of their own young people should be ashamed of themselves. These are the people most desperately needed who have the vision and the know how and the love of home and who could bring the island to its fullest potential once given the chance and sadly, this is the way they're tre

Georgia and papa, Thank you both for your faith in my posts. Things can and do happen in SXM and I won't for one minute deny that, but they're the exception and not the rule, IMHO and that's based on my personal experiences over a lot of years and a lot of SXM vacations. the blade, I can't help but respond to your post since I'd venture a guess you're inclu

I just saw this on another forum and I have to post it here, too, for those who might otherwise miss it. Happy, happy birthday, Annie. I hope it's filled with nothing but the best for you because that's exactly what you deserve. Celebrate and enjoy and know I'm sending you lots of IAs along with hugs and good wishes. Respectfully, pat

BruceSusanMn, What a perfect trip report. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. And as I understand it, you spend a lot of quality time on the island with some really nice people, too. Good for you!! Again, thanks for sharing. Respectfully, pat

I'd love to know the answer to that one also, Barbara. It seems we always knew there was a 'nudist club' - (giggle, giggle, wink, wink - this was the attitude of so many who talked about it back then....) over there but I can't remember when we first heard of it. The picture Philippe posted is the way I remember OB way back when we first started visiting. We made it to Or

Ah, Philippe, Those of us who are fortunate enough to have visited the island before the rebuilding of Marigot for that infamous Sandra Bullock movie would have had a better shot at remembering this view than those who came afterwards. We spent many a Saturday morning back in the day wandering through the Marketplace poking through the offerings. It was interesting to see the little fish

I don't know and I'm thinking jimandi are probably correct but my guess was going to be about late 50's early 60's in the old, old Marigot harbor market area long before it evolved into what most of us are familiar with today. Respectfully, pat

Thanks, Denis, for taking the time to share your thoughts and your island knowledge though I will say, most of these are suggestions that would/should/could be applied almost anywhere and not necessarily reserved just for island vacations. Again, thanks for your thoughtfulness. Respectfully, pat

Pero, We've stayed on Simpson Bay Beach at Marys Boon, somewhat down the beach from where you're looking, but if you've ever landed at PJIA, SXM, you have some idea of just how close it is. We heard the planes (for about the first 24 hours) but they're such a novelty to watch that the noise factor was never an issue, and after the first day we really didn't hear them

Mike, I've rented from Sharon, Queen of St. Maarten, and she is awesome to do business with. Sorry, I don't have an e-mail but I'm betting Barbara or Philippe will and if not, you can always google her. Her rates are more than reasonable; her phones are good and very easy to use; and she couldn't be any easier to do business with. In some cases, she can even arrange

Oh, Annie, Don't we all!! Right now we have multiple inches of "possibility of snow flurries" here in our part of CT and it's freezing cold and windy to boot. J's spent the whole weekend getting the 'possibilities' off our driveway. Norm, just thinking about your party makes me feel better. Our trip is soon, but not nearly soon enough!! I'm wishing

With all due respect to newer posters here, please recognize that this is not a chitchat type of forum, but more like a place where people come to ask questions and receive answers without a lot of the other stuff that makes each spot different from the other. And as has been stated by the moderators here in another post, if you have issues with other forums, it's best you leave them ther

Thanks, Barbara, for making this post and giving us all the heads-up. Of all the St. Maarten names I'm personally familiar with (even if I don't actually know the people involved) these two names come up again and again and again and always in the most positive ways in benefitting this island we so love. They truly deserve the honor. Respectfully, pat

Roadrunner, Were you on the same flight? It certainly wasn't the typical approach that we've become accustomed to over all our SXM years and that's for sure!!

Barbara, That pink tower (for want of a better name) should have been a dead give away. We can see it just as clear as a bell from our balcony at The Towers - it just sticks right out there for all the world to see, proclaiming the past glory of what was another beautiful island resort once upon a time.

Methinks it was the latter!! But when all is said and done, the landing was exciting and certainly started our trip off with a bang.....and from that point forward,it just kept getting better with every day and every adventure.

Hi, Dennis, Agree on all counts. Time is too short to worry about coupons and traffic and crime and weather. If your number comes up it comes up and who can control the weather or the traffic? Only one power that I know of but it's sure out of my control. I wish the people at Rosie's would take a lesson from the people at Karakters and MB. We had a little discussion with manag

Barbara, The reason I did it so quickly was because I didn't take notes, and if I didn't commit it to print immediately, I'd forget most of what we did. LOL!! It really was a very pleasant sojourn and now, it's back to reality and the world we really live in.

What a wonderful time we had. Great flights – AA 667 and 660 – on time or early each way. Landing in SXM this trip was different, to say the least. Our pilot made two attempts before finally getting us on the ground on the third time around, and the second one we were literally a third of the way down the runway in landing mode when he pulled up and did his second fly over. That was an

Thanks, ladies, I can place it now, and if it works out and I'm able to find one in time along with the appropriate ingredients, I'm sure you'll both get a taste along with a few other island friends as well. And if it doesn't, aw shucks!! There's got to be a great bakery somewhere. Does anyone remember the incredible cheesecake that used to be served at the old Ca
