Gator3x, We've been dealing with the Buhdrani (sp?) family since they opened their first store on St. Maarten and they celebrated their 25th anniversary this year so I can only agree - they are absolutely great to deal with. Respectfully, pat

So, Ladies, As the list grows, what's the count to this point? Sounds like a fun evening - Wednesday night, right? And Elaine, it really does sound like you guys want to think about that table? Can you spell buffet? Respectfully, pat

Okay, perhaps clarification is needed on the shorts. I don't think in todays world anyone will get upset with visitors wearing reasonable shorts to the groceries - they're accepted in most restaurants so I'm sure at the grocery store it's fine - I think that was a throwback to perhaps 15-20 years ago and then it would have been offensive. However, if you take a look a

I still disagree that anyone was laughing at you specifically as a person Georgia because of what you do or don't do on the island - this is NOT a mean-spirited group here - they're laughing more at the circumstances of the situation is the way I see it, but if thats your interpretation then I will personally take the bull by the horns and apologize to you on the behalf of all the origi

Awe, c'mon, GaKaye, You know I love you, girl, but you have to lighten up on this - they weren't laughing at you specifically - you're too nice a person to have that happen to you. But it's been said time and time again that certain things are just not approved of by the islanders. I know I've said many of them myself on a lot of different occasions. It's the r

jimmy, The rental companies from the French side would not have the "R" plates and there are some companies on the Dutch side that seem to offer both so it is possible to NOT get them. Regarding the deductible you had to face, I don't have an answer to that but I believe there are some policies, AE premium coerage perhaps, that offer first dollar coverage for things of this nat

Hey, I...., One year Kim and Ken were at The Towers and I believe in their penthouse unit and felt one - now that had to be a little scary once they realized what it actually was and what floor they were sitting on and how many flights of stairs they had to run down if it became necessary. Yikes! And thankfully, it's something we've never experienced anywhere. Respectfully,

hofstetter, While there are a gazillion reasons I can think of to want a map of the island, I have to tell you, some of our best island finds over all our St. Maarten years were things we found purely by accident and by wandering up or down a road not knowing where it might lead us. That said, if I had to be somewhere at a given time, we'd usually do a test run but life without maps wa

Bob, Good information along with the fact that the character of Mullet Beach can change in a couple of hours time. It's always been our favorite and since Towers guests do receive free beach chairs there it's a usual choice for many guests. We've been there when the waves in my bathtub have been bigger and we've also been there when the surfers were out enjoying the w

April, The trip from the airport to The Towers is less than ten minutes and that's allowing for traffic. About midway between the airport and the resort, you will pass through the Maho shopping/hotel area and there's a small grocery store there. It's directly across from the Maho Sonesta Beach Hotel and adjacent to the Maho LaTerrasse timeshare property. There are a half

You know what, MelissaG, I was thinking the exact same thing. We've never done the buffet there and in fact, only went back to Captain Olivers for the first time in about twenty years after hearing all the kudos going to the place under Philippe's management, this while we were on the island last month, but I have to say, we had a very good dinner and I couldn't complain about

Sorry about that, Barbara - I should have been more specific in my thoughts. In my mind I was thinking that hurricanes have hit fairly regularly over the past 35 - 36 years we've been visiting, but you're correct - and the last major hits were a while ago, thank God! We can only hope and pray it stays that way for the benefit of all the good people of your island. Omar wasn

Barbara, I remember our very first St. Maarten trip in '73 and calling home to check in with the sitter and our girls. We found it was sometimes easier and faster to make the trek into P'berg to do this 'back in the day' than it was to wait in your suite for the operator to ring you back to tell you they finally had your call. How many times did we wait it out only to cal

hofstetter, I'm sure know those of us who have repeat island history also have our favorite jewelry stores so I might as well throw my hat into the ring as well. We've been using Caribbean Gems for twenty-five years and I've never been disappointed with any of my purchases there. While we were on the island a week or so ago, they were actually celebrating their 25th year

Cindy, I trust you've gotten my e-mail about Saba/Anguilla and MB/Pasangrahan but regarding Sharon and the phone rental, it was $25. for two weeks and then we had Sharon put $20. worth of minutes on it and while we used it a bunch, we never did run out of time. Also, if you happen to be renting your car from Lesley Bruce, they have a drop off arrangement they've worked out and it

irina, I'm almost embarassed to ask this, but where EXACTLY is Prime Grocers in Almond Grove? Don't answer that, irina!! Respectfully, pat

Barbara, I posted the following on another forum and want to post it here as well - Kudos to all those who participated in the clean up at Mullet Bay Beach following the Easter holidays. In reading the different articles both in today's Daily Herald and in your blog, something else came to mind and should, IMO, be duly noted. All too often, timeshares, both the concept in gener

Barbara, You're absolutely correct. I just checked out your blog and that does almost make me sick. You know how I love that beach - I'll just never get why the locals treat it with such total disregard. And it definitely was NOT that way prior to the Easter holiday - we were there and we saw it up to and including the Thursday before Good Friday when the tenters started pitchin

Irina, When Mullet Bay Resort and Casino was up and running, that beach was one of the most pristine beaches throughout the Caribbean. The chair gentleman raked that beach all day everyday and cigarette buts, leaves, seaweed and any other debris that might land was never left there. Literally, when they weren't dispensing chairs they were raking the beach. I don't know what the

Ah, Denis, it really was a great trip and enjoy it we surely did!! But let me clarify a bit - we were not the ones collecting the trash on Mullet - it was another guest at our property who owns about six or eight weeks there. Every morning around 7am she and her hubby play tennis on our court and take a litter bag with them and pick up anything they see along their route, so the clean-up
