......but can any of you islanders, particularly you recent transplants, suggest the most likely and easiest place to purchase an inexpensive springform cheesecake pan on the island? Do you think LGM might carry something like this? The easiest and quickest place to get to and then in and out of from the Maho area would be most helpful? Thanks in advance, pat

Elaine and Annie, For what it's worth (and that could easily be not much...) last April we were having trouble finding 1/2 & 1/2 during our second week. After checking the Maho store early in the morning, we headed over to LGM and at the one on the circle someone in the dairy department told us that all the fresh supplies get to the stores on Mondays and Thursdays (the big day for fr

Elfie, Your best bet is probably Le Grande Marche just before you cross the border between the French and Dutch sides of the island and just down the road from Port De Plaisance Resort. I think it's Union Rd. but could be mistaken on the name of the road. It's a full service grocery store with everything you would find here at home in one form or another and some of the products you

Barbara and/or Elaine, Even if you have that 'special skill' isn't there some sort of prerequisite where the employer has to apply for you prior to your being 'on' island? Or something along those lines? I remember reading something a while back but the totality of it escapes me now. Respectfully, pat

Mark, Where are you staying and what do you consider 'fun' since that's a pretty wide open field. For some that would be dancing the night away at a local pub while for others, dinner and an early night and for others still, fun could be dinner and some casino time and then a late night club. There's lots going on all across the island, but the most active area is probabl

Anita, To add to and expound on what has already been said, St. Kitts is a nice day trip if you want to golf in more pristine conditions but it won't be cheap - but when is golf ever? Factor in the flight/transportations expenses along with the golf fees themselves and lunch and all, and the departures fees and taxes and it becomes an expensive day. We haven't been to St. Kitts

Thank you, GaKaye, She's my daughter and I love her to death and I really didn't want to do the mother-daughter correcting thing, but really, Kim, wheels go up and down? And I used to sing that nursery song both to her and down the road to her daughter and son when they were little, so go figger........ pat

Neil, Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to share that with all of us. We were scheduled to visit that fall but needless to say, the plans were cancelled and we were not able to see the damage first hand, but reading your description, and having seen the videos and spoken to so many who were there and lived it, I can only say, thank God we didn't. We dealt with the aft

B, Gary did a great job with this - it was so good that at the very end, I wanted to jump right off the bus and head into Chesterfield's for an island breakfast and watch the bay come alive. Thanks, Gary, for your efforts and thanks, Barbara, for posting it here. Respectfully, pat

Linda, I honestly know nothing about this specific villa but we have timeshare at The Towers which sits at the edge of Mullet Pond and Mullet Lagoon and overlooks Pt. Pirouette. As I sit on my balcony most mornings enjoying the sunrises, I look down on the property and it looks lovely from where we sit. The different units are constantly being upgraded, or so it sounds from the on-going dis

B, You know it goes without saying that we're all infinitely interested in this and hope for a good outcome. Sometimes a little posturing can bring about incredible results - not saying good or bad - but for a tiny little island like Saba I would think that's a very scary position for them to take. But it shows they've got balz and perhaps it will get them where they'

Not 100% certain on this, i, but I think k&k (without kids) will be heading down the early part of November. We're there the day after Thanksgiving into early December so sounds like we'll miss you. Would have loved to see you again.

Very nice report, Andy. If you said when you were there I missed it, but do you know if you were on the island before or after the food store at Maho had their problems. I'm just curious as to whether or not it's open on a full scale basis again. And to the previous poster, I can't agree more, Elaine. Trouble is, for us, anyway, I didn't realize there was another new o

Rummy, I'm certainly no expert on villas but I do know the Terre Basse area is very convenient to both sides of the island and features some incredibly beautiful villas in those gated communities you've inquired about. It's an easy drive to Marigot and Maho and all the items from beaches to restaurants to evening entertainment can be found between both of these areas and traffi

Augie, Is this the Maine camping trip you've spoken of in the past? I hope the weather clears finally and you have a great time. We're doing less and less camping lately - still have the desire but just not enough time so I wish you the best of trips and perhaps, if you post a trip report somewhere, we can enjoy our camping vicariously through the sharing of yours. So TIA.....

Philippe, This is excellent news for all of the island and while it may mean gendarmes for the French side I would hope it also means the Dutch will be equally aggressive and their numbers will be equally large. We can only hope, right? Be positive, Bob. We have to hope they're going to be on island for as long as it takes to get the job done and done right. Thanks for posting, Ph

Vicki, Thanks for posting this. I just received one of these 'tagged' e-mails from an aol aquaintance but it was someone I hadn't communicated with in at least a year or two so having read your post I chose to delete. I hope it wasn't a sincere post because I'd feel really bad about that but I'm honestly thinking NOT! Respectfully, pat

Hey, Ladies, I have a thought here regarding both Denis' pictures and his trip report. Inadvertantly, we've pretty much usurped it at this point and taken it to a whole other place. Perhaps in fairness to him (and evereyone else?) we should either start a new thread of our own if we have further discussion or else, just take it private altogether. Denis is a good guy and I kno
