Aha - so that's what goes on when there's no adults around to superivse you kids!! Good for the whole bunch of you and I can only add, I wish I'd been there, too. Well, and then again, perhaps NOT!! Respectfully, pat

153. Re: Saba
Kathy, Everything Neil and Barbara has already said is right on the money. As to whether it's worth going or not - we waited almost 25 years before making our first trip over and I can only ask myself why did we ever take so long. Saba is one of the most beautiful and still pristine islands in the Caribbean, IMO. It's a hikers paradise and a photographer's dream. Shoppin

Yes, B, I don't know why but I don't remember much about Front St. from our earliest visits but about 83 and on my strongest recollections of Front St. include Risdon's, Pinnocchio's, your liquor store and the bar/restaurant on the same side of the street as you that had all the beautiful birds. Why do so many of my memories seem to come back to birds? pat

Risdon's ice cream right by the water. I can't begin to guess how many ice cream cones dear husband had there over the years while he waited for all his ladies to be done shopping at Caribbean Gems. These threads are a pleasure - thanks to all for providing them.

Lucy, I would agree with Kim that two people will have no space issues in a studio, but that said, if I had the option, I'd still go for a one bedroom but that's just me. I truly appreciate the additional space a one bedroom gives you. The thing is, the studio itself is the same as the livingroom area in a one bedroom and they really are very roomy so whatever your options, I t

Shhhh, Kim - I don't think Karen wants to talk about that to this day. But it was very funny at the time. >< And do you remember the waiter - he suggested he could take it to the kitchen and take the bug out? Why did we all have the sneaking suspicion that the same soup would eventually reappear at her place just minus the bug? It's no small wonder she decided to pass on sou

Philippe, Your sentiments are shared by many but sadly, those of us who knew her when and loved her then are in the vast MINORITY these days and all too often, the current mentality of "If we build it they will come...." does seem to win out in the long run - the Westin being a case in point. I've sent you a private message.

Ah, yes, we remember it well..................... This is what I meant - the Marketplace really was a very special thing back in the day....we used to wander the market for hours taking it all in. Thanks for the memories, Philippe. Gratefully, pat

That's it, Barbara. We were there the first time - I think in the late 70's and it was my first 'big girl fancy' restaurant - you know, the ones where the menus are only priced for the host? I had no clue as to the prices but I knew it was expensive and I recall ordering only an entree. And what really sticks in my mind was how beautiful and how small it was when served.

I remember that area, vaguely these days, but I do remember it. Long before Hollywood and hi-tech changes came, the water front was just a stone's throw from those balconies - well, to be exact (in my memories anyway), a sidewalk, a narrow road and another walkway and the water so maybe a stones throw for a good arm........ The market place was such a pleasure back in those days when

Agreed, Neil, that is the reality of what we ended up with. But as all the offical documents refer to "The Towers" - I'm thinking we'll never see it change. But who knows, someday maybe....................?

I was going to suggest the Marigot waterfront at what is now a man-made seaport. Is that LaVie en Rose way, way in the background? pat Ah, but in looking back I see Wendell already publicized Fort Louis.

Lucy, We own at The Towers and it's my trip report John was referencing. Thank you for your kind words, Vicki. The Towers is most definitely quiet but in a pleasant kind of way. If you want to enjoy the pool with a good book, or your balcony for a pleasant nap, this is definitely a good place to do it. And obviously, regarding those balconies, the higher you go the better the view an

So I guess I have to concede to those with far more island knowledge than I'll ever posess but Wow! I can see how similar the photos arcs are, but it's just not what I remember at Maho in the 80's. We used to take the kids there all the time in the evening and watch the few night time airplanes and while the post card perspectives are similar, it just doesn't look right to m

Philippe, As I remember Maho Beach in 1984 there really wasn't all that much difference as far as the airport was concerned - still a fence at the end of the runway, the road, the inclined beach and the water. Of Course, the boat bar and the SSB&G weren't even thought of and the road itself was not divided. I don't remember any boulders and I definitely don't recall a

That was building 90, Sylvia, and good for you. I think it's way too much construction at the far end to be Mullet Bay Beach. I'm thinking from the far end looking down Simpson Bay towards what was White Sands. Does anyone really have the answer to this one?

Any chance it's Simpson Bay looking from the Bourgeaux Bay end of the point? I thought Mullet at first but couldn't place the 'stuff - buildings - heavy tree line - WE' at the far end of the beach. The curiosity's killing me, Barbara.

First of all,let me offer my thanks to all who shared my favorite island time of year and have already written such terrific trip reports. Each of them has been awesome. Since it's my custom to use a lot of words and often not say much, please feel free to follow the bold print to save yourself some time in reading it. Departed JFK, AA, Sat. Julie, One more thing to consider when renting your car is the issue of motor scooter and motor cycles riders as well as those little ATV vehicals. As long as you're aware that no normal road rules seem to apply to many who choose to drive these things you're probably going to be way better off renting a car and having the freedom to explore and do what you want when you want to. Teresa, Re that last - as are we all. Let's just keep our fingers crossed and say our prayers and lets all hope the weather predictions for hurricanes are like so many of the other forecasts - just plain wrong. And thank you so much for the info re the beach near Allamanda. I guess we'll be doing a little more walking for our beaching this trip. Respectfully, pat

Teresa, We also booked a few nights on AXA and have actually done this a few times now since, like you we have timeshare on St. Maarten (which will sit there empty while we're over there) but the time on Shoal is very special for us. I thoroughly enjoyed your trip report and particularly so the part about the party at Gwens - isn't it the best? And you really should have tried lu

Philippe, This is a heart-breaker to me every year. As much as we love to be there at Easter, I'm almost glad we weren't this year, having witnessed the mess last year on both sides of the island. I'll never get it - some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and they're regarded with such a total lack of TLC. And sadly, this mess is created mainly by locals.

Hey, Denis, Great shots - thanks so much for posting them so ALL can enjoy. Your photos make it look ALMOST as good in still life as it is in reality.
