Kathy, I second, third or fourth everything the previous posters have already said about Sharon. For years I was one of those people who didn't want to be bothered with a cellphone but I found out just how useful it was to have one when we experienced car issues at one of the local beaches. Having it was invaluable and Sharon absolutely is great to work with. And one more thought - w

I think we'll all be saying a prayer that Earl, like the proverbial uninvited relative, will get a better offer and decide to spend time elsewhere instead. Respectfully, pat

Barbara and Philippe, I understand there are some notables visiting St. Maarten this week and that there may even have been cause for a special celebration fete for one of them. Was there a reason no mention here? Because I would not want the word to get out, even though it's belated at this point, that Irina celebrated another birthday on St. Maarten this year. But should th

clarkee, You can always experience the odd day out when a sweatshirt will be appreciated but it is definitely NOT the norm. In 30-40 years I don't think I can recall but one trip in March when I might have enjoyed it, but that's not to say it won't happen next week. With luggage allowances what they are today, I wouldn't bring one and take up all that room, knowing full w

Philippe, Knowing you and knowing Saba, I got your reference right away. I wasn't sure others who might not know either one would, but with the combined posts, there should be no room for doubt, right? Hope all's good with you and that the summer season is enough to keep you hopping. Respectfully, pat

Kimbere, I've day-tripped to both and over-nighted at both and here's my thought on the two - if you can bear to tear yourself away from a day on the beach, I'd opt for Saba. It's beautiful and pristine and much as St. Maarten/St. Martin was thirty years ago. We took the Edge out of Pelican Marina (I didn't have a problem with it but many on the boat did) as a part o

Lucy, I've read your posts with much interest, and those of the others, as well, and some of what you've listed is right on the money. The Towers being a Gold Crown Resort would fall into that category. It was GC once upon a time but as much as I still love it, there's no way I would consider it to be of Gold Crown caliber today but again, I understand why it is what it is curre

sabwjz, Lesley is still out there and still providing the same brand of top shelf service he's always given. Depending on your internet provider, your message may be blocked on your end or there may be internet issues on the island again. If you need to contact him fast you could send him a private message here on GoBeach or you could try sending him one on TTOL. He does keep an ey

Since Barbara is out of town and unable to do this, I post the following which I received earlier this evening from Andrea and which has already been posted in other locations. Because Andrea is a friend of so many who post here I'm sure those who hadn't already learned of it, will want to see the following: It is with an extremely heavy heart that I let you know that my grandma, El

coco, Believe it or not, that wasn't a rumor but part of the sales spiel when PdP first opened. We met with friends who were involved with the grand opening of the casino and one of the head sales people was telling us all about how they only had but a few more parcels to close on and the golf course would be begun and once done, it would put Port de Plaisance on the map. Played any

MPlatt, I can understand why you would want to see these places and they're all totally unlike each other. As stated, St. Barth's is beaucoup Euro - very lush and lovely, and it's here you might shoulder up to the bar and rub elbows with who knows who of the rich and famous brigade. Be prepared to spend lots of money for the simplest of trappings. Getting there from St. Maa

To the OP, I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but here goes - I would rent a local phone just to be on the safe side. As others have said, you may not need it at all (and I honestly hope you don't) But Sharon Harris, QueenSXM, makes the whole process such an easy thing to do, that I just can't imagine being without one now and sadly, you just never know when the '

And beyond that, RDT, if you were out and about the island it was a very nice place to stop in the very late afternoon for a sun-downer. We enjoyed quite a few sunsets there in the late 70's early 80's. Yes, B, those really were the days. Respectfully, pat

Ed and Mathieu, Ed and Sandra still post on TTOL on occasion but due to a bout of illness and one thing and another - I think they call it life? - they've not been to the island in a few years hence the lack of SXM posts. Most of their reports of late, entertaining and enlightening as always, have been about various special occasions at and trips to the Myrtle Beach area of SC, and a

Elaine and Mathieu, We specifically went looking for her both in April and November past and never were able to find her. Both times we thought perhaps we'd just missed her but it sounds as though she's given up the job. For her sake I guess that's a good thing but I have to tell you, that's one island tradition for our family that truly is missed. pat

Awe, Den, tampering with the Etna Rum Raisin? Why, that's almost sacreligious and there ought to be a law against it!! Somethings just need to be eaten au naturelle. Well, perhaps that wasn't the best choice of words but c'est la vie!! And I know you're getting my point. My DH ate almost a full gallon of this over our last two week visit in April. Well, he might have
