We'll be there the Saturday after Thanksgiving for 2 glorious weeks... when are you planning? Maybe you can come to our dinner party the first week? Please say yes...that would be way too cool!

Thanks Pat for the countdown! It didn't even occur to me. And this will be the year that we will hopefully get together.

I've never done Sonesta Maho because we have a timeshare at RI but I am familiar with the location. Cupecoy is not within walkable distance from the Sonesta Maho. I have heard that the AI there is pretty good. I can't help you with the beach part but I do know that some people who frequent here like Elaine could probably help you with the current sitution of where the best beach a

I do have to say that when living on a tropical island for many years with a consistent temp of 80 - 85 degrees every day, one's body grows accustomed the the weather and can tolerate wearing long pants and long sleeved shirts day or night, but for people who are coming from cooler temperatures, this extreme weather for at least the 1st week could wreck havoc with a person's body temper

Denis..since you were at RI, could you tell us whether the beach in front of the resort was useable or not. I am not sure whether you are familiar with what it has looked like in the past but someone is asking what the conditions are like now so since you've been there recently, I guess you would be the best to know what it's like now. Welcome back Denis and glad you got to experience RI. We fell in love the first time we visited and haven't had a bad year since. And for someone who loves watching the planes, I can't imagine a better place. I can't wait to see your pics! We'll be heading there in December after our 1 week stay at our condo and we can't wait. And I agree, we couldn't have been

Marguerite...thank you for a delightful trip report! I assume you stayed on the Dutch side and tried pretty much the best of everything! And yes...we started with 1 week for our vacation about 15 years ago and within a few years changed it to 2. We have never looked back on that decision.

Yes, that may be true but to sign up for the first time, they ask for your passport in order to issue the card. That is what I was implying. Thanks for the clarification though.

Such a shame, yet people are drawn to this behavior like flies to honey. Everyone has their own expectations of what is considered good food or good service but whenever anyone posts anything good or negative about any place or any person on that website, it's likened to a pack of wild hyenas coming in for the kill...lol I have more important things to do with my life than spending time

Actually the Atlantis Casino has a card system that has changed from prior years. If you go to that casino, go to the Customer Service Desk and ask to sign up. You'll need your passport. There are three portions to the card system and one is that they give a small car away every Tuesday (they have one outside the casino on display). In order to get tickets for the drawing, you must play

The $30/pp airport departure fee is almost always included in your airfare but if not you would need cash and not a credit card. You would need to pay this at the booth separate from the airline counter. Most people's tickets do include the fee though. Regarding your timeshare/hotel, there are some fees that you would be responsible for and with timeshares, there is also a voluntary charge

And one more suggestion is to have the ceremony at the gazebo at the Sonesta Maho hotel which overlooks the caribbean. I attended one and it was breathtaking. You could just have the ceremony there and then as was suggested, return to the French side for the reception. You would need to use their wedding planner but our friends used them and everything (except the brief rainfall) went perfectl

Julie, there are plenty of places once you get to the airport to rent your car and my friend seems to always get a good price once he gets there but we like to reserve ours before we fly out. Since this is a touchy subject (everyone has their favorite and will argue it for some strange reason), I will suggest a few reliable ones: Unity Car Rental Kenny's Car Rental Tropicana Car Rental

Well then as I mentioned, taking the bus from street level to either Philipsburg or Mullet Beach is easy. For Mullet, just go down to the main road and cross the street. Wait for any mini van with a sign in the window that says Mullet Beach and wave him/her down. You can ask the driver to tell you when you reach Mullet Beach and hopefully he'll remember to stop. Mullet Beach is a lovely

First of all, it depends on where you are staying. The answers could be better explained if you identified this first. But, in the meantime, if you are staying on the French side, then I would recommend taking a taxi if you will be drinking at a beach far enough away from where you are staying. If you are on the Dutch side, then it would depend on where you are staying because if you are sta

No one can by-pass passport control. The booths are located up the escalator before you even get to the security checkpoint. There are 2 booths with 2 windows each with only 2 or 3 people manning the passport check computers most times. Envision what you go through as you come in with immigration and then multiply this by 5 or more with lines snaking around until you reach the escalator. Maybe

Across the street under La Terrasse. It costs about $30 for the week (it may have gone up since we were last there). You pay at the Front Desk and they'll give you a piece of paper to put on your windshield as well as a swipe card to get in and out. You won't need to take a ticket during the week. If you want, you can drop off your luggage and park the car by taking a ticket but onc

Hi Barbara...Happy Easter to you and the family (and to all gobeach Members). Good news! Bobby from the SXM Website "Enjoy Life Traveling" just volunteered to bring some of the tapes!!! I am so happy and grateful to him and his wife. You'd think I was transporting gold by how excited I am. I'll let you know if he will need for you to pick them up. Vicki

Barbara...if I managed to find someone who would bring the tapes to the island, would someone be willing to pick them up from the good samaritan (or a drop off point) as I would never ask them to deliver them all the way to the home.
