That's good to hear Mr. Donaldson. There are quite a number of people who stay at the Ocean Club that were questioning when anything would be opening so at least I know that this can be answered with the affirmative. Good luck in your venture and if you can somehow let us know what your food selections would be, I would be interested. We are at Rainbow and so it's just a short distan

What area of the island would be convenient for you? There are a few that did open up that could be considered "not overly expensive" but I guess that's a particularly wide range without further defining. I heard that a new restaurant opened in the Atlantis Casino complex and I think it is called Manhattan. We will probably be trying it on our upcoming trip. It has been said tha

You can do many things like sail on the Pub Crawl which I believe visits 3 restaurants to sample their wares but on a boat. You can hang out in Maho where there is a new night club called Tantra or visit the Casino Royale. Across from there in the Carnevarsarie area is another night club called Bliss. That Club doesn't really start hopping until after midnight. Then there is the Red Pian

I didn't think your post was out of line or overly negative but if you re-read your lines at the point just after landing, some may have taken serious offense. I enjoy reading people's honest opinions about their views of the island but I truly would have rather you waited until you actually got a feel for the island before posting what you thought you saw. Yes the roads may be pot-ho

Hi Philippe... I do not want you or the poster to take my comments the wrong way but I too felt like him/her on my first 1 day visit and so I speak through experience. I am not saying that there is not poverty but there is a difference between poverty where eating and surviving is a day-to-day struggle and living a slower and more relaxed way of living that we are not accustomed to. Many o

Thank you for your observations but being that you have only experienced 2 days of the island, I would wait a little longer before actually claiming to see the island as it is. It's like a person walking into a job on the first day and seeing everything wrong that everyone is doing and how it could be made better but given time, you will see that everything has it's positive and negati

Oh Philippe and William...I am devestated beyond words. The tears were falling as I read your thread. I pray that your Mom has met Bobby Lee and has taken her into her arms and will care for her now just like you and William did. My deepest sympathies. Vicki

I convinced a friend to take the bus to Philipsburg from Maho and so she and her friend did. According to her e-mail, she loved it. When she returned, she e-mailed me to tell me that on the way back, the driver had pulled over to the side of the road for an "emergency" where he got out and did his thing and returned to bus "relieved of his duties" so to speak.... She said t

No Driftwood doesn't but the sunset bar and grill still does according to a trip report I recently read.

I will tell you what I read but that never means it's true... Sunset Beach was closed down unexpectedly due to money issues with the government. The owner was forced to close and sell the place which is now Sunset Bar & Grill. The place is pretty much the same in style and offerings. Rumor had it that the previous owner was to open a new bar and once again call it Sunset Beach Bar

Sorry to burst your bubble although I can see how it would sound absurd for a vacationer like yourself to do this but... Actually, it wasn't a vacation... We had just closed on our brand new condo and the defective bath mat was a completely useless piece of $ht. I had bought 2 mats... one for each shower. They did not even come close to adhering to the tile floor and made it even more

OMG! I wasn't sure which mansion you all were talking about since I have never been down to that area but from the photo, that is utterly amazing. It seems to put any mansion I have ever seen to shame.

Thanks for the wonderfully written trip report. It certainly is appreciated that you wrote the good as well as the not so got to allow others to be aware when they travel. As I read your Turtle Pier experience, I could see in my mind's eye your experience and could feel the frustration you must have gone through, but I have to say that you took it very well and moved on from there. Good fo

Thanks Elaine. I have considered that as well since it is so desolate and so if we do go, we'll make sure to not bring anything of value.

I had thought the same thing but you would have thought that someone would have seen this happen other than the vet himself so keeping it quiet would be a tough thing to do. Regarding giving the dog to someone is a possibility but I couldn't think why he would risk his reputation by doing this. I personally believe that she got loose and ran. But my impression would be that she would st

Philippe...after studying Google Earth, would it be easier to travel the paved lowlands route and turn off just before Villa Tourquoise (seen on the Google Earth SXM Tour map) and travel that main road all the way to the beach? I would like to avoid any sandy roads if possible. I guess it's paranoia that has set in after last year's problem getting stuck in the sand at Mullet that I w

Thanks so much Philippe for the wonderful directions! Come November, I will certainly try going there. It looks like such a peaceful beach. I copied what I think is where you are talking about...let me know if I am right... There are so many points to look at and actually a few homes with tennis courts but this was where I saw multiple cars parked and a path leading down to the beach.

Philippe, are there any places to safely park your car in order to visit Plum Bay without walking far? I'm looking at the Google Map and although it looks like there are some places that are open areas, I could be wrong and what I'm seeing coule be people's yards. I have never been down that way. Any suggestions? Also, the road to Plum Bay...any easy ways to get there? Vicki
