I think I am confused. Driving from Oyster Pond to Orleans there is an observation deck built. Is it to the left of that if you are standing looking at the sea? If so, are the mangrove trees still there? As far as photo's, I think some of the historic houses/cottages. It is an art and beauty that should not be lost.

Then, I have to be wrong. I was sure it was Orient Beach as well. But now that I think about it, sea grapes grew very close to the water on Orient. I am going to really mess up now and say Dawn Beach.

This is such a wonderful thread. Thank you Philippe for the memories. I remember the market well. I would shop there with my now 40-year-old daughter sitting in a carrier on my back. Loved talking with the ladies about their fruits and vegetable and I felt like they were my friends. One time my daughter had a scrape on her chin that would not heal. It had to be treated by Dr. Petee (sp?)

I think Bigdenx's overview is excellent and would apply to any place on earth you would travel. Not too many rules to remember, just two: Common Sense, Common Courtesey

A positive post. Excert from a journal written about and for my children called 'Far and Away is Home'. One beautiful morning Andy and I were busy weeding the tiny garden by the back walk when Andy said “Look Mom, there is something floating on the sea.’ Looking past the point I was what he was looking at. It was a small black dot on the horizon. We spent most of the morning

We have a saying in the Caribbean. Sweep under you own steps before you sweep under mine. Your name is Tex so i would assume you are or were from Texas. Just let me ask you this, have you gone on the web and looked at the number of gangs and gang related deaths there are in that state? Have you brought up a list of known gangs by State. Have you researched the total number of deaths each y

Does anyone have pictures of the exterior of this hotel that use to sit where the present day Atrium is built? I would like to know the history. We had parties there for my childrens First Communnion and Confirmation and have pictures of the enterior but none of the exterior. We never learned the history of the structor. It would be nice to include this in the journals I have written for my

Semi-nude on Orient? Who would of thunk it !!! For the record, THE beach will only pay them if they are totally nude with purple and pinks strips painted on their back. But this only applies if they are on the beach during Happy Hour on Tuesdays and Fridays. (Please see the fine print for conditions and rules of Orient Bay.) Sorry Barbara and Philippe.

Tiago, you have the correct attitude. Find out what is needed and follow through the legal and correct way. I hope St. Maarten does work out for you and you go with the approach to give back more than you take. It is a beautiful Island and even more beautiful people. Boa Sorte. Sig seus senhos. Sylvia

I knew him only by his posts about his years of visiting St. Maarten. There was a diginity about him in always stating the straight forward truth and his love of the Island always came through in his posting. Rest in Peace Bob. I know you are enjoying a white sand beach and clear blue waters.
