Monika, Do consider living on the Dutch side. May be cheaper than the french side. I know lot's of French people that live on the Dutch side and travel for work. From Cole Bay it is only minutes to Marigot. Cheers irina Try Simpson Bay Yacht Club. Contact Dieter at Sunshine-Properties.com

Maclain, We too love St John and get there whenever we can. The snorkeling in St. John is superlative to Sint Maarten, on French and/or Dutch side. Do not expect good snorkeling in Sint Maarten. Also St. John is 3/4 a National Park, Sint Maarten is much more developed commercially. Philippe didn't mention some of our favorite Sint Maarten beaches like Prune in Terre Basse and Mullet Ba

BigMaclain, Listen to what Andrea said. Maho Food Express is MUCH closer than Cafe Atlantico. Quick walk over to get baguettes, croisants etc. Also good lunch buffet as BigDenx mentioned. Both Maho Food Express and Gourmet Marche in Simpson Bay will have everything you need, beer, juice, burgers, frozen pizza etc. There is also a 7Alive convenient store down the road from Gourmet Marche on A

Barbara, As you know we are at the Atrium and woke up around 5 am smelling poop! We thought it was the bedding but it didn't smell before so........... By 7 am we got up, couldn't take it anymore. Of course there was an earth mover outside our window banging and lumbering up Onyx Street so sleep was finished anyway. And yes the other day it stunk from Maho, Simpson Bay Beach etc.

Right Kim, And in France you just leave extra change in the tray. You do NOT tip 20% EVER. Don't understand this explanation from Philippe if French side is a Collective or whatever. Still part of Mother France. And my first time in France I worked a little in our Paris office and they explained to me what to do. Cheers irina

I have personally never seen "sea glass" in Sint Maarten. Broken Heinekin bottles but not the polished stuff. Where do you guys find it? I'm not talking about the already made jewelry. I am asking about actual sea glass. Cheers irina

Pat, so wonderful to hear of the old times. I wonder why some think I am trying to act as if I still live here. Hmm. Cheers baby. The Orly thing was because of all the hijackings in the 80's. We went to Italy right after Achille Lauro and it was crazy I tell you. Say hi to the brat for me. i

Captain Dad, Don't go to SXM. All beaches will have topless women. Sorry. Go to a British or formerly British island. Cheers irina

Nadine, You are interested in moving to a place you know absolutely NOTHING about? Paved roads? I suggest you do some research to find out more about SXM. A tourist message board is not going to give you what you need to make an informed decision. Cheers irina

Suzanne3367, That's an incredibly stupid statement that you just made. It is unbelievably dangerous to hang on the the fence and get hit by the back wash and power of the thrusters. Some people............ Irina

Sandra, I think it is a lovely idea that you have. I for one would recommend Le Bec Fin. It is on the Dutch side, on Pelican Hill. They have a lovely deck that overlooks Kim Sha beach that would be perfect. The food is divine and service is very good. The best part is they charge in Dollars not Euros so you get more bang for your buck. Any of the restaurants can recommend florist and baker.

Wow. Let's see, What do you mean "how do we get stuff on SXM". You go to the grocery store. There are lots of them. Grand Marche, Food Express etc. Don't know where you are staying. Dollars used on Dutch side everywhere. French side will convert. As of today the Euro was 1.52+ to the dollar. Good luck with that. ATM's dispense what you want them to. ATM on Frenc

Beach bar, ribs etc are the way to go. I used to love the burgers at Bucanneer but haven't been there in a year. Ribs definetly from Lido's. Rosie's at Mullet Bay are good too. Have fun, Cheers irina
