I truthfully would not give up anything in particular. Where I would give up things is more around the home base. My opinion is that once on vacation, this is the time to forget about any worries. If I had to give up anything on vacation, then I would not go on vacation. It just wouldn't be the same. At the very least frustration would take hold and would not be able to relax. Then ag

Was it an open air restaurant with an arbor over your heads? If so, then it was La Croissanterie.

LOL....good one Denis....I hope you all know that my comments are somewhat tongue in cheek and somewhat my beliefs (and for me to know which is which) but I do love the island so much that I accept any imperfections, just like what true love is supposed to be about. And that includes all those "what if's"...

I signed the petition as well. Thanks Barbara for sending it to me. All I am hoping for at this point is that this man does not take the child and hide him from both the Brazil and US authorities which, unless things are done quickly, will happen.

I have yet to complain. Personally I am probably one of the few that likes what is being done. Of course I have an investment in it so I am somewhat partial but I like the progress and in time things will catch up but I'm not in a rush. I would prefer that they keep the French side sparse, almost buildingless and of late, not without crime in the evening due to this remoteness, and let th

Wow...so sorry to hear about that! I do understand what you and Enzo are saying but I still feel that there are some things I find so endearing (and challenging) about the island and one of them is that they are so different in their ways. It may be backward to us...building restaurants one right next to the other before improving the roads and parking... but if they were to have done this t

Hi Enzo... thank you for your trip report. I agree that much should be done regarding the parking/sidewalks in Simpson Bay but actually, although it certainly is a hazard, I find it endearing....weird right? You see, when I come home, I expect to see those bland sidewalks and ever so straight parking spaces, and so when I go to the island I feel that I want to see a different lifestyle. A sort

Make sure it's "Spybot Search and Destroy". There seem to be others that are just called Spybot. When you do a search, use the whole phrase. Let us know if that works.

You may have a bug in your system. Maybe if you clear your cache or cookies you may be able to get in. Also if you have a program like "Spybot Search and Destroy", you may be able to clear out those pesky programs that worm their way into your computer and stop you from seeing some sites. It's a free program that I use occasionally to clean out the bad guys. I usually remove th

Oh...ok...the paperwork that's needed to be shown before getting on the ferry is not for checking the person who is on the French side trying to get to another island. It is merely for making sure he will be accepted once he gets to Anguilla. They don't care that his paperwork does not really even allow him to be on the French side to begin with. But that once he/she gets to Anguilla,

I am not sure about all this as having a passport would be a simpler answer. Being that you would still need to produce your paperwork before boarding the ferry to take you to Anguilla in Marigot, if you think you can't return to the French side because of your paperwork, I don't see how they would even let you on the ferry to GET to Anguilla since you would be dealing with the French

Ooops....Philippe's answer seems more to the point. I assumed that a passport is needed to get to Anguilla so my answer below may not be accurate. There are no official check points between the Dutch side and the French side and so you could actually travel back and forth between the 2 sides of the island. I assume that you have a passport as well? If not, you will not be able to go

Thank you Philippe for describing most beautifully, another of your adventures with Mom. Everything happens for a reason but it's the wise one that keeps his mind open to these signs and then acts on them, because these signs are what keeps us connected to our loved ones and them to us. I can safely say that you are wise.

I can only answer for the Verizon and what I found is that I had absolutely no signal sitting on Friars Bay Beach which is on the French side and to the west of Orient. I definitely had coverage on the Dutch side where we stayed. If you want to be assured of phone coverage, you should contact Sharron who rents phones on the island for $30 for the week and that includes about 10 or 15 minutes of

I don't know about Le Taitu as I have not heard anything about the place in some time. It may still exist though...just no reviews. I heard only very good reviews of Spicy's so that would be worth the trip there I would imagine. It is still open. Rancho del sol has also gotten nice reviews and is still open as well. Not sure about Ti bouchon.

Ahh....thanks Philippe for that explanation. That is such a shame that the homeowners/management would look to abolish anything good. In one very small way, I could understand their feelings about outsiders "invading" their property but in a large way cannot understand how something that could increase the value of their property and also be the best advertisement for THEM and resale

WOW!!! How wonderful a post. Thank you so much Denis for letting us all know. I had suggested to them through a post that they look into the Cliffhanger bar/restaurant as a possibility since it currently is closed and I would think generate a following from 3 or 4 large resorts that are in walking distance. I think this would be an excellent choice if the owners are looking to rent the place.

You can try a few places near the airport like The Royal Turtle or the Horny Toad although some places have a minimum stay because of the expenses. I would put them up next door at Rainbow but I would have to charge more just because of the expenses involved so try the above 2 choices first. I'm sure one of them would accommodate them reasonably. I'm not sure how much the Sonesta Mah

Get real Anon.... one was still in it's pacakge and both were purchased the day before. If you're that freaked out about this, then don't buy anything because many items you DO buy have possibly been returned and repackaged. And explain to me HOW do YOU test a bath mat without removing it from it's package?????? My friend told me that their company buys extra boxes from

Glad to hear that you tried Ace in Cole Bay. They do have a great selection of things and management in that particular store was more sympathetic to my bath mat saga than the other Ace which I will never go to again. They would have taken them back if I had purchased them at that store. The mats landed up in the garbage after taking them home and didn't even stick to my tub floor....

Any section of the island interest you? I could help but the price I would charge may not be to your liking... 2 days is a tough one because of the added costs of maid service, last minute planning, etc. Maybe you can try the Sonesta Maho, Horny Toad, Mary's Boon, or the Royal Turtle.
