Hey Islandbound! THANKS for the clarifications of the event changes. We used the water taxis on 3 occasions. The service was flawless...your folks got us out to the boats effortessly, and it was a bit choppy on Simpson Bay. Like I said, the whole experience was an example of groups working together to provide world wide attendees with an experience they won't soon forget...GOOD JOB ! D

Hey! Our meal at the BOATWRIGHT/LAKAH/SCALISE dinner party was a group effort and I'm sorry to say I forgot who did the honours. The pasta ( gnocchi) creator was Peter. The lovely Heather and sous chef Brigitte were abley assisted by Roger the sommelier. Heather did the chicken pasta salad, mouth watering crab dip and an assortment of appetizers and salad. They found me a can of cre

Hey MIKENTARA and all, The weather for HR-09 was exceptional although high winds altered the course on some of the race days. On Saturday a few incidents at the start due to cruise ships, a demasting on Friday, a few minor collisions and a stanchion through the port aft gunwale of one boat I saw on the way in. The entertainment was enjoyed by all. I'm into roots reggae and Percy has t

Hey! Another HEINEKEN REGATTA and an excuse to get back to SXM for Michele and I. We used our floating week at SUMMIT RESORT and ditched the first 2 nights while adding 2 at the end. This move allowed FF tickets from AA through MIA to be viable. The recession hits deep and SUMMIT is an option for adequate accommodations at a low price. Our room was recently refurbished and provided a

Incredible! How happy and sad all at once Philippe! The memories surging back from those evil days in your country. Thanks for sharing, as always it's amazing how small our worries, fears and nightmares are in relation to those less fortunate. Time spent with those we miss and love is precious, go and enjoy the good memories. Denis

Hey! A little insight into your most important questions. On your standard Declaration form you will be presenting to Immigration on your entry they will ask where you are staying. It must be filled in. You will be asked how long you are staying..it must be filled in. I have arrived with friends who did not have a return ticket to their country of residence and they were obliged to pu

Hey! As a footnote: Food Express also has a breakfast and lunch buffet, GREAT wrapped sandwiches made on premise, imported cookies, a decent supply of bread and pastry and a full small freezer (near the front) containing ETNA local ice cream. It will survive a drive as it's like a ROCK when you buy it. A"bag boy" is sometimes stationed at the cash register and he will pack y

Hey Contessa and Kaye! So actually the "cutbacks" are limited. The "fine dining" experience is motivation for many to visit and I can certainly understand that. If you do it daily with wine, it could cost upwards of a grand a week for 2 people. A grand a week is a $750.00 TS suite for a week PLUS a YARIS and gas. YOU GOTTA EAT SOMETHING is the expression heard a

Hey! Things are indeed getting tighter...I'm a Realtor and haven't had a deal in over a year. We have not made any adjustments while on vacation because we travel bare bones. I drink DIET PEPSI and Michele Presidente. We buy her beer at the grocery store with the cheapest prices. Food is no problem, I haunt MAHO and the Food Express is my b'fast spot of choice. Baguett

John, IMHO: If you can keep winning at your perilous and somewhat risky Simpson Bay Traffic Game and then live to be about 200 or so and if Cuba doesn't open up its beaches to Americans I am sure you will be ahead of the game ! In the meantime Aruba has done it right and could be an example to a country wanting separate status. Denis

Hey! Thanks for the report. You are so right...the infrastructure has not caught up with the development. Too much cement in the wrong places. John, I understand your point but things change and won't ever be the same. Check out Vieques or Bonaire for "in the days" milieus. Over New Year's there were 2 very serious accidents in front of Tijuana Yacht Club in Simpson

Hey! Read the article and thought about it as well. This is another sign of our difficult economic times. It seems fewer people are traveling...those who are spend less and search out the better deals. Rima's always has good prices, fantastic selection and decent service. You can't expect Government to step in and protect business people at every level. The street vendors

Hey! St. Maarten Medical Center could provide a cardiologist reference. In the meantime it might be prudent to enroll in this insurance plan: A first response to a serious medical problem may not be as beneficial as you would get in a major city. Most aircraft carry defibrillators now, a great tool. I believe it takes a while to find the right settings under tests to fine tune
