Philippe, when I met you, you looked and sounded exactly as I expected you to, but then I had seen your picture on your blog! I wish the night we had dinner at Tabba Khady had been a nicer one weather-wise, so that we would have felt like hanging around and chatting for a while. I had no idea until after we got home that Vicki was there at the same time we were! We could have had a nice time.

Philippe, Thank you so much for posting these pictures. I particularly enjoyed the old postcard picture of what is now La Vie en Rose, my favorite restaurant in St. Martin. I'm so sorry I didn't have the opportunity to dine there before the harbour was filled in, but I still love it even now. Can't wait to get back; only a little over six months to go until our next trip!

We stay at LaVista Beach, and found a lot of it there. When we were there this past December, there were huge Northerly swells that just kept bringing it in. We stood in the water and watched, then grabbed to get it before it got sucked back out. Both of us got pretty bruised up from the rocks hitting our ankles! We also found a lot on Grand Case beach behind the restaurants..found a lot of b

We've collected a lot of beach glass on our last two trips to the island. Now if I can just motivate myself, I might actually make some Christmas gifts with it. For now it's just on display in my family room, making me yearn for St. Maarten!

I don't think the wind in Pelican Key is much different from other areas on the island. Just depends, but generally it isn't too windy. As far as beaches are concerned, except for the man-made beaches at Flamingo and Pelican resorts, the beaches are pretty rocky and not great for swimming. You'll probably want to rent a car and travel to one of the other island beaches during th

Hello to both of you. I'm hoping to hear what happened on the other board, and to continue to get your great insight here. I've never met you, Barbara, but I consider you my friend, and Philippe, we are definitely friends, are we not? Please post!! Georgia

It depends on where you are. I understand, though I have not purchased there, that there is a new fish market in Simpson Bay. If you're in that area, then that might be a better choice for you. As far as traffic is concerned, it's generally worse on the Dutch side because of all the overdevelopment there. Traffic through the Simpson Bay area is at a standstill whenever the bridge is

Flowers, I beg to differ! The main reason we vacation in St. Martin is because of the excellent restaurants. We are prepared to pay the cost of dining in these fine establishments. Not everyone is on a strict budget while on vacation. Yes, there are some good restaurants on the Dutch side as well, but we will always prefer the French side restaurants.

The Atrium is located on the Dutch side of the island, which is known as Sint Maarten. St. Martin (no "s") is the French side of the island. Not to pick, but it really helps in understanding locations when you get those basics down! The Dutch side has the night life and is more Americanized. The French side pretty much closes down at dark, and is generally more expensive due to the

You can drive to the top, and then hike out and see beautiful views of the island. It is quite remote, and that is why Annie has suggested that you not go there alone. Two years ago, my husband and I did that, not having heard that we shouldn't, and did not have any problems; but I must say that I was uncomfortable as it is so remote, and if anyone had attacked us we would have been toast.

If you enjoy sailing, the Random Wind is a great trip. It lasts all day, includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks, and three snorkeling stops. As has been said, snorkeling in St. Maarten is not as good as other Caribbean islands, but still fun. Random Wind limits the number of participants, so the sailing part of the trip is more relaxing than on an overly crowded catamaran.

What a shame! We had not yet eaten there, but were there right after they opened for a 12 Metre race. It seemed like a really nice place, and the folks that were running it were so excited about having the restaurant.

The trick to driving is to be courteous not at all timid. There are very few stop signs and fewer stoplights, so you have to stick your nose out in an intersection and someone will let you go. Most times they will give their horn a little beep to let you know to go, then just gun it and go! Just make sure you return the favor whenever you have the opportunity.

The water trampoline was still there in April. I'm thinking it was $5 an hour or $10 for the entire day, but don't hold me to that. I'm way past the age of water trampolines!!
