Thanks! We stay at LaVista so that would be a good choice on one of those nights when we don't feel like getting in the car, but don't want to stay in either.

Elaine, I really enjoyed your report and the pictures! Thank you for sharing. We have never eaten at BBB. Is all of the food cooked on the open grills there? What do they serve with the meals (veggies, etc.)? I love grilled tuna, as long as it's VERY rare!!

I don't know anything about the issues with Sapphire, but I just wanted to let you know that writing "payment in full" on your check accomplishes nothing. I'm a retired banker who spent 30 years in the credit administration function of my bank, and I know that placing such a notation on your check does nothing to extinguish the collectibility of a valid debt...here in the US.

I was at work (in Petersburg, VA) when someone came in and told me a plane had hit one of the towers. In my mind, I saw a small plane..until they came back and said another one had hit and they were both passenger liners. That's when I realized we were being attacked. We all spent most of the day in and out of the employee lounge watching the TV, and the days afterward glued to the set at

The current projected track of Hannah takes her right through Richmond! Normally the winds aren't much by the time they get here, but the rain can cause a lot of problems. We were without power for over a week after Isabel a few years ago. Nothing like total destruction, but still pretty annoying.

Does this law actually change the law on owning guns on the island? I don't read that into it at all. I think the ability to legally protect your property from an intruder is very important, but I agree with Vicki that it will probably not do much to change the incidence of crime. Sad, but true.

Yes! I can see it in this post as well as in the original post now. Not sure what's changed, but thank you!! It's a beautiful picture!

Barbara, for some reason I can't see pictures again. When this happened last someone fixed it...do you know what's wrong? I just see a red "X", and the url address of where you have the pic, but can't do anything with it.

I'm just testing this theory, because I responded to another post on another thread, and my post did not end up below the post to which I responded.

LaVista is an RCI Gold Crown resort. We got a year's free membership when we purchased, but didn't renew it when we expired as we have no intention of ever exchanging.

That's what I thought too, Philippe, but on another thread I don't think it worked that way. I'm going to try again, to be sure.

I am totally confused about how the responses to each thread are organized. The new responses aren't at the end of the thread any more, and I recently responded to a particular post, but my response isn't underneath the post to which I responded. What am I missing? I'm having a really hard time following the discussions.

Bob owns a timeshare on the French side which is apparently not affiliated with either RCI or II, so he cannot trade. I have to be honest and say that, if I did not own three timeshare weeks, I might feel differently about my decision. Even though I can trade (I would have to re-institute my RCI membership to do so), I bought my weeks fully intending to use them at my home resort and not trad

We stay on the Dutch side, but spend most of our days on the French side (Orient), and generally dine in Grand Case or Marigot. Recently we have tried more Dutch side restaurants, but find the cost isn't much different for the quality of food we like. That said, we do feel safe at our timeshare and on the streets in and around Simpson Bay. We won't change our plans based on the recen

This brings up a question that I have had for quite a while now. I have never had to return a piece of jewelry because a stone fell out, yet I repeatedly see posts about people who have to repair jewelry they have bought on the island. Why is it that so many folks who buy from jewelers on St. Maarten lose stones? It seems to me that the jewelry is just not as high quality as what you buy elsew

Beautiful, Philippe! Thank you for sharing. La Vie en Rose is my favorite restaurant on St. Martin, and I truly wish I had been able to eat there when it was a true waterfront restaurant!

Barbara, I'm so glad to hear you are OK physically, though I know from experience that the emotional effects of this will take a little longer to hit home. Take care of YOU, and be kind to yourself. Georgia

One that does is Spiga, and it amazes me. Their prices haven't increased significantly since we've been going there, and they offer 1:1 for credit cards as well as cash. Eating there is quite a good value, and the food is phenomenal as I'm sure most who post here know.

Orient is the only beach on the island where nude sunbathing is officially legal. It's my understanding, though I have no personal experience with this, that there are others on the French side where nudity is accepted. I believe Cupecoy and Baie Rouge are two of these. I'm sure others will chime in with more reliable information. Not all of Orient is nude, so you can go there and st

No, not even close. We are in Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, which is near the Northern coast on the Bay of Biscayne, while Barcelona is on the Mediterranean. I had never been to either, but expected a more Mediterranean feel than I'm getting here. Still, it's absolutely beautiful countryside, and the city is phenomonal. Being American, the age of the architecture simply amazes me

Hi Barbara, We are in the North of Spain, where the Moroccan influence is not so prevalent. The cuisine here is much more meat oriented..sausages, stews and such, because the weather is generally cooler and rainy. We did have paella the other day, but it wasn't anything special. I might have better luck if my Spanish was better..I generally have no idea what I'm ordering!! We have

Just wanted to share with my friend Philippe that I am in Oviedo,Spain right now, and the food leaves much to be desired! I am definitely spoiled by St. Martin's wonderful cuisine! The food here is very heavy and the restaurants don't even open until 9 PM! I guess that's because the sun doesn't set until 10:30 or so. Still, we are having a wonderful time. Georgia

Vicki..as I mentioned in our PMs, we arrive around 4:30 on the 6th. If we're lucky and get to CLT in time to get on the earlier flight (and there are seats), we'll arive a couple of hours before that, which would make us more amenible to going out the first night. Keep me posted on your plans! I'd love to meet you. Georgia

Normally we would be on the island that week, but changed our weeks this year so we'll be one week late. Hopefully it'll be such a success that you make it an annual event and we'll be able to attend next year!
