Thanks Barbara. These are great links for Johnny. Johnny, Barbara is a longtime island resident. You can rely on her good advice. The links she has provided you are great. I have seen the first 2 often recommended on French boards (especially the second one) for roommate, shared accommodations and job info, so take a look. I'll send you some other info as well. M.

That's great that you speak and read French ! That will definitely help you on the French side, and English of course will be an asset everywhere on the island. I will PM you with additional details. PS. No need to repeat the cost of living stats in Ireland on all your posts as I/we read them on your other posts, but suffice to say I am shocked at the price of beer ! That must put a serio

Johnny, do you read and speak French ? If you do, there are French forums and message boards like this one pertaining to French St. Martin and Marigot, and there you will find lots of others like yourself looking for shared accommodation and roommates. And, they seem to be finding what they're looking for at acceptable Euro prices, so you never know. There are French papers and e-zines I

I enjoyed it too in its hey day. I'm on island right now and drive past it everyday between my hotel and wherever I'm going. I'm hoping to take a stroll through the grounds either tomorrow or Wed. M.

I'm on the island right now - enjoying an Easter bottle of Charles Heidseick bubbly bought at a grocery store yesterday at greatly reduced prices compared to home - and loving every bit of St.Martin/Sint Maarten time. Church was lovely this morning and weather sunny and cloudy, but no rain yet ! Hi Barbra ! M

Yes, a departure is very common in many - if not all - airports. Often time the tax is included in the price of the ticket depending on the airline or tour company so you don't realise that you're paying it, but if it isn't, you pay it at the check-in counter or at a separate window/booth at the airport. Check the Princess Juliana website for a list of the airlines that include

Have you been to the island before ? From your post it sounds like you may have not and if so, I'd strongly recommend that you do first - even if for a week or two - to see how things work and run on the island and get a feel for island life, before setting your sights on a longer stay. During your scouting trip, explore and research accommodations and locations on the island because the

In the interest of full disclosure - and since as you say, 'Forums like this are the only chance to get an idea of the truth', can you find out and tell us where (the hotel) they were staying so we know the area to be aware of ? That would be helpful.

Thanks Pat. I'm really looking forward to going to both islands. I've been going to SXM since 1985 when I first backpacked there with a buddy just after graduating Uni, and weeks before starting our new jobs. Travelled back often until 2000 after which other destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America hit the list. I've kept in touch with island news but am now very mu

Hi All, I am considering doing a day trip to Saba in April. I'm planning to fly over, both for the experience of the 15 minute flight and landing, and to maximize my time on the island since its only for a day. I will likely have been on SXM for a couple of days by then with a rental car and so plan to drive myself to the airport. My questions are : 1. Where can one park one's car

Thanks Islandbound. We've eaten there many years ago and liked it so may try them again this year. They are one of the true die-hard longtimers !

If the SXM - Anguilla - SXM ferry times work in your favour, or you charter a private water taxi (if available) you should have no problem going over to say, Shoal Beach, then somewhere nice for lunch, then head back to SXM. Sorry can't suggest any eateries as I haven't been recently, but have been before, and recall a beautiful thatched restaurant surrounded by shallow turquoise water

Thank you for your suggestions. While a sampler plate isn't quite the same thing as a tasting menu, I've read enough favourable reviews about Karacters to justify a visit. Danes, Le Cottage sounds about right and glad to hear that they offer a tasting menu at least some of the time. Had to delay our trip from March to April now, so hopefully they may be offering one by then. Tha

Thanks Elaine, yes, it was Citrus. We had many nice meals there over the course of 3 years and 2 chefs. One was a young guy called Jeff I believe, and on the second year's visit we brought him some spices that he couldn't get on island at the time. M

Hi all, Does anyone know of any restaurant that offers either a Tasting Menu or a Chef's Menu ? Many years ago (late 90s) there used to be one restaurant in Cupecoy (I forget it's name) that was attached to the 'The Market at Cupecoy' that offered a Tasting menu. The place was beautiful inside, but didn't seem able to keep any one chef for too long. However each suc

Wow, 1969 ? I didn't realise that it was that old. My first visit to the island was in 1985, which is when I remember driving past it on my little scooter. Nice pics and thx for sharing.

I too would recommend the French side beaches for the kind of eateries you're looking for. As said by others above, Baie Rouge, Baie Nettle, Cupecoy and Friars Bay all have that kind of thing; I like that too so I can vouch from experience. Enjoying the beach or the sunset with a plate of jerk chicken, ribs, slaw and rice with a cold Carib is livin' the high life, I'll tell ya !

I love aunts like these and I think every family has at least one ! They are very entertaining and you want to do everything to make them happy, but they can drive you up the wall ! Sorry but I don't have info about a ferry to Anguilla from the airport (I didn't even know there was such a thing located in that area; maybe in Simpson Bay ? but thats not 'just across the road

Oh my goodness, these are simply amazing and just beautiful, Den. I am an airport/aircraft fan and love watching plane landings and take-offs all over the world wherever I happen to be (including my own city) so you can imagine my appreciation for these. Not only is the subject matter ace, but your photography is excellent too - composition and clarity. Did I mention I'm also a buddin

Ah, OK. So a little out of the way, but still doable as a good hike with the reward of a nice beach and swim at the end. And then a hike back. Where can one park their car safely at Ance Marcel before doing the 'Sportive route' ? Its been a long time since I went there and I cannot remember how it is. Thanks very much for all this info. M

Gee, thanks again Philippe. You seem to have pictures of everything ! And nice shots too. I guess those pictures are not recent are they ? May I ask a couple more q's - how does one get there. I'm assuming by car of course, but how far away does one park (i.e. and leave the car, is it safe ?) and is it a longish walk along a path to the beach (like Happy Bay) ? or is parking close to

Cool. Thank you for posting these Philippe. So, this is interesting in that its something new for me since I've never visited either of those places before (though it doesn't look like the first one has a beach). I've certainly heard of them but just never got there in all these years. The second one - Petite Caye - looks really nice and I'm curious to know if it still loo
