Dear Barbara: I was on island 3 weeks ago. I had a 25 foot tall palm lose its top (i.e.die) next to my driveway. I bought 3 truckloads of water, and only gave each plant a drink (who knew 7500 gallons went only so far). We are coming back in Sept and would greatly appreciate some water in our cisterns (the last time they were full was Gonzalo. We would like to meet you and the Gardener on th

William and Phillipe: We are so happy. We are sorry we were not invited. But Dany had a ruptured aneurysm in her brain, so we have been occupied. She is better, and we tried to visit you last Tuesday at the resturant. Please PM us, as we want to know how things are in Mexico...

As the regulars know, I do not often post, but I monitor this board frequently. This is one post I must respond to. On the French side, the best areas are Oyster Pond, Orient Bay, and the Lowlands. The worst, (in no particular order) are Concordia, Sandy ground, Cul-de Sac, and Marigot proper. There is no safe place, just as there is no safe place anywhere. As you have no job, nor any real p

If you are thinking of being on the N.A. side, you will have a tough time. The N.A. is not part of the E.U., as is the French side. The French side is no bowl of cherries, either. There are folks on this board better informed than I am, who can give you guidance...RASTAMAN

I read a couple of years ago the National Weather Service donated a weather radar to St. Maarten. Any plans for them to actually install it?

Hi Phillipe: I'm sorry I missed you at the restaurant last Thursday. I have a question, though. As a Rastafarian/American, am I afforded any special rights on St. Martin? What if I only seek employment as a beach bum? Can I get a housing allowance, and social benefits?

Depending on where you are in Orient Bay, you can get St. Martin Cable service. About 90 channels (including U.S. networks) for about 36 Euros/month, regardlewss of how many tv's you have.

Elisa: You may find the competition a bit much in Marigot. Currently, there is a shop in West indies Mall that sells lise charmel, Luxxa, etc, as well as two (at least) in Marina Royale that Carry La Perla, Chantelle, and others. I do not wish to discourage you, but check out the competition before you set up shop.

Barbara: Thank you. I have been going crazy trying to find out info about the quake. I was able to see the seismograph info from the Saba station, but an interpretation is much better.

I have 2 DISH Network Dishes for sale. If you want to get U.S. channels, you have to make DISH think your boxes are in the States. It is my understanding if you get legal DISH in St. Martin, you would get the Central American version. You can get "pirated"boxes that have everything decrypted, but we found it was not worth it.

Hi Barbara and Phillipe: "Things are quiet...too quiet" We did close the bottom shytters on the house. I pray Phillipe is right. We got here late last week, and have been getting ready for the season. After this is over (and the roads are passable) We would like you and Dee, and you and William, to come over. Maybe Sunday? We'll see...rSA
