3 items, magic Jack / laptops/ recharging

#1 Has anyone tried using a magic jack on their laptop from St Maarten to the US? I need to stay in touch for business. If they work I suppose I'll
have to schlepp my laptop which I really don't want to do "one more thing to keep an eye on".

#2 Can you pic up a wireless signal there (no card)?

#3 I've heard its risky recharging your computer in St M. due to their power grid?
,
Thanks, Cupe

It depends on where exactly you are staying to know if there is WiFi. I do know that if your place does not have WiFi, there are places at the Atlantis Casino that offer free WiFi if you patronize their place.

Regarding charging your laptop, I brought along a safety plug so that if there was a power outage, the safety plus would protect it when it went back on.

I use Skype to make all my overseas calls so if you sign up for Skype, your calls should only cost about $.021 per minute and the quality is mostly excellent as long as you are connected directly to the internet (wired). Just sign up, ask all your friends to sign up as well (those are free calls) and for business, it should work just fine. Then bring a headset with mic and you're set. You can even use a webcam with Skype for those that also have webcams.

I have used magic jack successfully from home but a friend of mine tried to use it on his connection and did not get good reception.
You have to be sure to have a high speed connection.
I think skype and vonage work better

If you have a good connection - MagicJack works just fine.

It's all about the connection. Trust me confused smiley

Magic Jack only works with phone - no web cam.

If you want a web cam, you need Skype.
