I know from a pure dollars and sense standpoint it would be cheaper but there is some hassle factor there - so I was curious on what the taxi rides might cost just so I knew the whole picture thanks

Guy, theres some definite advantage to taxis particularly if you like to party but the truth is its tough to get taxis in a lot of places and its tough to get them at night sometimes to. The remote beaches forgettaboutit and after ten or so it gets harder to get one if your anywhere but some of the busy casinos.

Anon,

I wondered about that my gues is we would need one to nad form the beaches during the day - Orient, Happy and from the night spots at night maybe to some of the ports for day trips too do you think we could get them at those times?

Guy,

I'm not Anon, but reading your questions, I would have to give you a definite no response for some of them. I'm sure you could get a taxi to and from Orient from wherever you're staying, although depending on where that is, it might be pricey. And likewise to Marigot and Philipsberg but again, cost-wise, no clue. With regard to Happy Bay, I strongly doubt you'd be able to get one to take you there and even if you convinced a driver to do so, I would be very worried about them picking me up again. The roads aren't great and it's really out of the way, even if you take the better route in from the Grand Case area. There's no doubt you could arrange for cab service both day and night but given the agenda you've described, I would have to think you'd be far better off with a rental car. I have no clue regarding the rates. Neil? Barbara?

Good luck,

pat

You should be OK getting a taxi during the day but unless you are in a high traffic area you will have problems in the evening. I have had problems even getting back to Orient from Grande Case on several occaisions. I would guess the fee from Dawn would be around $10-15 to Orient.

Dawn beach is not too far from Orient. Taxi fare should not exceed $10. Maho is on the other side of the island (opposite corner). Taxi fare would be around $25. If you are not familiar with the island, do not go to Happy Bay. It is in a remote area with no night life. At night, Orient becomes very quiet too. On the other hand, Maho is very active at night. You'll find lots of people on the street even after 10 pm. You can always find taxi at Maho 24 hours. Here is a site may help you:

As you can see from the chart, taxi from Philipsburg to Dawn is $15 and to Orient is $18 (same direction), to Maho is $16 (opposite direction). The rates might be couple years old but you can use it as a reference.
