Definitly one of the best day in world History. On the French side, in fact that's more about commemorating (sp) on official way. People gathered with their familly, do BBQ, visit friends.

It is a holliday. It's a great day in history, in French History. The French side is celebrating the abolition of the slavery, which was signed by decree of April 27th 1848. But it took a month for this signed Decree to arrive in Guadeloupe (and actually a couple of more days to land in St Martin...) Here below is a rough translation of it: THE FRENCH REPUBLIC Liberty, Equality, Fraterni

So.. about SXM's today!... Today is a beautifull sunny and bright day, here in Oyster Pond as you can see : A little bit hot though... at least that what told me Caramel and Picolla this morning on their walk in the mountain ... and overall the ocean is pretty smooth, which make it easy for anchorage... and for swimming...

IMO, and it is only my opinion, you would be better off at the Royal Palm. Villa Caribella is a wonderful house though, but it is located in Tamarin Hill, which is a great gated comunity but pretty far away from everything and isolated, specially at night, and specially for 7 young "girls", since it is a "bachelorette Party trp" and I assume you do intend to PARTY.... The are

Yes Sir! If you say so... then may be: Ask a question about today's sxm, or an info, and someone will be certainly kind to answer it. You also can post (or re-post...) your last trip report, in the matter to keep this board alive, it will be welcome. Though it was refreshing for a change, but I understand that it can be boring for some.

You are right, the Van Romondts were THE family of St Maarten at that time and like you said owned pretty much everything on both side of the island including tintamarre (Flat Island). The first to come to St.Martin was Diederik Johannes van Romondt (1781-1849) who arrived from Holland in 1801. He served as governor of Sint Maarten from 1820 to 1840. From that time for more than a century the

Your next guess is right Kim... It is the road going behind Gd Case Beach club to Petite Plage! The place you are talking about on Friars Bay was and is a private property not a resort. It was the estate of the Mallortigues familly (Gd St Martin/ Marina Royale/Glden Tulip/Cul de sac/etc...). IT was destroyed by huricanne Luis, sold, and someone bought it a couple of years ago and rebuit it total
