Our hammocks have survived EVERY hurricane, except Georges. And, that's because the palm trees that they were attached to became airborne and ended up in God knows where! And, yes, B, you've been a HUGE support to me through this! Tons of thanks to you!!!!

Here are a few pictures that my friend took when he stopped by the other day. Check out the water levels on the houses. Some of these houses are ACROSS the street and down the block from us! All in all I'm a bit relieved just to see them. They aren't good. But, not as bad as I was imagining. Work has already started and it really starts in earnest tomorrow when the back hoe start

don't listen to kim. Geez, if Hell on Earth Beacon Hill got power today I would imagine most other areas would be restored relatively soon. If you got power and h2o and your accommodations are ok, I say go. You will surely discover places you've never seen before, maybe do a good deed and help out some people in need after Omar, see the island at it's best in human nature aft

Just talked to Barbara. She's doing ok, just going a little stir crazy. She's going through a bit of internet withdrawal and is dying to get online! LOL She said they weathered the storm ok. She slept though most of the storm but woke up at 3:30 am when the sound was pretty terrifying (this was the same time our caretaker called to say they had evacuated into our back cottage). S

Heard back from Beacon Hill in SXM about 2 hours ago (sorry, I went back to sleep). The houses are ok, no windows broken (we didn't have time to board up!) but our caretakers residence is under about 2 feet of water. Our beach wall is intact but took a major beating by the waves crashing over/through our property. Our front gate (steel and wood) is a bit smashed up and part of our roadside w

Just heard from our caretaker and wife from our property. They evacuated from their house a few hours back to another higher house at the back of our property. Waves were crashing over our beach wall into the property. Our appliances were floating in the laundry room. They were getting lots of rain and heavy surf but did not have the ability to check out the beach area to see the conditions. T

well, hopefully, that wall will keep some of the waves from crashing into the houses. I'd be surprised if the surfers weren't out front. However, from the Westin cam it doesn't look like the surf has built up yet. Hope the flooding is not too bad. At least this time we have a paved road. Although, that might be bad - no where for the water to go now..... uh, oh.

not yet. Looks like it's the waves that we need to worry about anyway. Hope that lovely beautiful white wall that I painted for weeks will have its first test. I'm sure the surfers are out in force out front....

QuoteIn November, we're staying at Coral Breeze villa, a 5 bedroom villa on the beach, in Beacon Hill. Does anyone have any information on that villa and what beach it's on? Also, any information on the surroundind area? Last September we stayed at La Perla villa on Dawn Beach and we only ventured to Marigot and Philipsburg so we're excited about staying on another part of the isla

It was a perfectly gorgeous sunny pre-fall day here in Chicago... almost just like it is once again today. Spending the morning trying to call all my friends in NYC and everyone in Chicago (as the horror was moving westward Chicago seemed like a VERY likely target) to make sure they were getting out from wherever they were. Everyone was ok... some walked 4 hours home to Brooklyn even to do so.

Yep, B, I was thinking about this last night. Every year when sept 5 or 9-5 rings in my head it immediately clicks. I can still recall the feeling and anticipation as it approached and the gutwrenching feeling I felt as it hit. And, the lack of communication back then..... thus the creation of this site. I remember we had local ham radio operators trying to get info for us. Luis slidesh

It'll be alright Denis, just hang on. I don't think it will be quite as vanilla as you think it is. I think it might still be a "work in progress". Nothing wrong with a laid back vibe. And, Percy's playing tomorrow night! So..... it might just be an ok place for you to rest your camera's and drink your pepsi after all! See you there!

loosely (very) translated: QuoteIt was a small way… … but the bulldozer passed by there. The pretty path which leads beach of Friar' S Bay to that of Happy Bay was completely disfigured this weekend by some not very scrupulous hearts which wished, seems it, to replace it by a road! All the first part of the path disappeared, trees, flowers and rocks were torn off by the bulldozer
