There are many restaurants in Grand Case on the ocean side that overlook the beach and water - also I have heard good things about Marys Boon behind the airport but have not tried it myself.

Yvettes is great and if you like Indian ( curry ) food then try also Lal's Indian Cuisine on Airport Rd just by the new terminal. Greast food low prices and great company.

I echo Elaines comments above. It's around $ 550 right now but you may find it drops during Feb. 8 weeks from departure seems to be the sweet spot for reductions.

I can't remember if they have Microwaves but they do have kitchenettes for snack prep. There is also a fridge and an ice machine on the ground floor by the reception area. There also several places to get a massage - just ask at the reception. Sorry no info on cigars but again I'm sure they can help you at the reception.

If you are staying on the French side there a few places that will show them. The best option would be La Chappelle in Orient Village.

Plam Court is being renovated at this time 0 I'm not sure it will reopenby the time you go. Another option would be Residence de la Plage who have three apartments vey close to the ebach and well equipped.

I agree with Augie - commiting to a timeshare does not make sense - it removes the option of where to stay, opens up issues associated with maintenance fee increase and special assessments and last but not least you can rent similar accomodation for a similar price to existing annual maintenance fees.

You should be OK getting a taxi during the day but unless you are in a high traffic area you will have problems in the evening. I have had problems even getting back to Orient from Grande Case on several occaisions. I would guess the fee from Dawn would be around $10-15 to Orient.

Here's a few suggestions If you want to be on Orient then Plam Court would be an option. Alternatively, although an apartment rather than hotel, try Residance de la Plage. There three apartments almost on the beach at very reasonable cost. Nearby at Oyster Bay Le Balcons have studios that are very reasonably priced. If you are planning for this Dec then try cheapcaribbean.com - they may

I don't know any hostels but The Tourquoise Shell in on Siompson Bay would be one of the cheapest. Also The Fantastic Guest House in Marigot is very reasonable also. Good luck.

There cetainly are more places to eat in the OB village these days and they are certainly open way beyond 8pm. Cote Plage, Planet Orient, La Chappelle, an oriental restaurant ( name? ) Fish Bar ( changed hands but still there I think) Tap 5 etc etc. This is in addition to places like Papaguyo, L'Astrolobe and Le Plantation. I also have considered not renting a car but have found there are al

There are obviously many that have used Trifty wiothout a problem but I have to say I have seen more bad reports for them than many others. My personal preference is AAA but there are others that get consistantly good reports.

I would not be concerned I have been to SXM with my wife at least once a year for 10 years and have not experienced either robberies or bushwackers. I do not say they don't occur but I just don't think statistically you will experience this if you take common sense precautions. My rental car approach is to rerequest a functional but old car. In most places I park I do not lock the door

Lal's Indian cuisine on Airport Rd opposite that old terminal. Great Indian food and atmosphere - Lal is a great host - 60's / 70's rock music with a sporadic outburst of music trivia questions.

Well - you may be off a little but your point is well made. To amplify my original post when yo can rent a well equipped studio apartment either on or close to OB for between $420 and $700 a week why bother with the long term commitment.

I will be honest - I have never felt that timeshare investment is a good move. Given the initial investment and the commitment to support maintenance charges, you can actually find accomodation of your choice that closely matches the maintenance cost alone. This is especially true these days with on line info readily available.

Here's my version of a low budget plan with great results. Accomodation - Residance de la Plage apartment on Orient Beach - there are several aprtments but I would recommend # 38 which has a wonderfull view of the bay and it's location in Orient village is excellent. Facilities are great. You should be able to get this for about $ 700 a week - # 38 is a studio apartment and perfect for

In years past there was just the strip of shops just by RdlP which included Tap 5 a beauty salon etc but now the village includes the newer square where you will find Cote Plage, Le Chappele etc It's a shame to hear The Fish Bar closed - that used to be a very decent inexpensive place to eat. Let's hope the new place lives up to the same standards

I stayed in #38 a couple of years ago and plan to return. As previously stated it is very close to beach bars, several restaurants and stores ( Tap 5 for groceires. ) The apartment is well equiped, clean and comfortable. The view from the balcony is spectacular. I wouldn't plan a gourmet dinner for a crowd but the kitchen has everything you will need for casual vacation food. For easy fo

We were there for New Year a couple of years ago. Dinner at Bistro ( cafe ? ) Paris in MAHO and then a walk over to SSBB for funcrowd and spectacular fireworks. Had a great time. Here is a tip - the traffic is incredible. If you plan to taxi and need to head away on the airport road towards Simpson ( or further ) then take a walk away from Maho towards the airport. You will find taxis in the

I agree that normal logic would support your argument but this is the caribbean - why damage a car if there is nothing to gain ( $$$$ ) - mindless vanadalism is not the issue in SXM and if it was it would not matter if you locked the car or not.

I've been visiting the island for over 10 years and was advized on my very first trip to avoid car theft. My recipe is that I always rent a small SUV ( no trunk ) I never leave anything in the vehicle and I leave the it unlocked and mostly with the windows open - so far so good.

Resdiance de la Plage #21 in OB is studio apt @ 600 Euro per week. Also Palm Court Hotel has a studio @ 500 Euro per week is also a good choice in OB. Real low price would Fantastic Guest House in Marigot @ $ 50 per night. I stayed there in January - basic accomodation and services but fine.
