Just read an article in the Business section of MSNBC on-line---and Delta is reducing its work force---by 4000---with severance package incentives--- mostly administrators and such----but also front end people such as ticket counter personnel-----also cuting back flights in and out of Las Vegas--I sure wish Amtrak went to SXM----chbpod

I have no problem with "crime" posts-----it seems to me that there a lot of newbies asking questions---here or "there"--- and the beware of crime advice is pertinant and helpful to them----as in "don't leave anything in your car"----don't walk in dark places at night----good advice----however- sometimes the "crime" threads head off into a finger-p

Higher prices for flying no question---and it will price some travelers right out--fewer tourists to SXM----because of diminishing seating capacity--and cost---so what does SXM do-----only trade off is to reduce room rates as an inducement----and with Continental cutting back as announced today??---(they will make the public the list of flights being cut probably on Friday)---I checked out Jetblu

Hey Bigdenx--- a "quickie" ???? what the hell is that---- the only quickie I know of at my age--- is trying to get the bathroom--- at night before I pee my pants-----and that requires 15 minutes--- sit up on the side of the bed-- see if you have any circulation in your legs before you stand up--- try to stand up--if successful -- try to negotiate the "terrain"--- avoid trippi

The Seaman's Club?? I thought it was the Semens's Club----good grief I really do need to get my cataracts fixed-- I can't read anymore-----anyway- I wouldn't go there --the women (and I don't care where they come from) would not be likely to be turned on to a blind old man groping his way into their lobby saying "where the chicks at"??? chbpod

WOW---- I got back from two weeks (May 9th-21st) and never new that this has been going on. At least they don't have the 60 posts rule on FIF----this site has not been particularly active since Gert went to Barbara1 and Neil as moderators----and that was a good call------the site was out of control--- and I participated in it-- as some of you may recall----that being said-------this is Gert&

I was at La Terrasse in Maho from May9-21. I read the article in the DH while on island. No smell in Maho accept for the occasional aircraft exhaust. Prevailing wind comes from Simpson Bay area toward Maho and I detected nothing. Spent most of my time on the balcony overlooking the beach and ocean and of course watching the planes. Weather was great. A few sprinkles one morning and a short shower

SSBB and Driftwood are safe---- even being on the beach during a landing is relatively safe-- but standing behind the jet blast for a take off-- patently dumb-- unless you are a real risk taker and don;t care of the "blast" is more benefical to your life than an eye-----or two---- last year they put a second fence right next to the road-- to prevent people from going to the fence closes

Barbara1 was correct in closing the original thread-- but some -with acrimany or recrimination- could have referred the OP to orientbeach.com-----no one knows how someone gets to this board or any other-- probably from a search of some sorts for SXM-----but I think that most know thatif there are "lifestyle" type folks they are most apt to be found at OB---NOT to say that everyone who g

Hey JR? you don't see the big excitement?? It's just like 4th of July fireworks-- spectacular and noisy--it's a testosterone thing -they rattle my chest just like those big bangers on the 4th----truthfully? I've been a 12 year old for over 60 years. I suppose that there are some plane watchers who have the NASCAR mentality of just waiting for a real spectacular--when one of t

OP said "older kids"--- Sunset Beach Bar might be an option--as Eddie implied-- right on the beach at the end of the runway----watching those jumbos land and take off is-- to me-- a thrill-- plus they have food and facilities---rent chairs and umbrellas--cab ride out might cost a bit ---but theie staff is always friendly and can get you a cab back in a matter of minutes--chbpod

Fathom is on airport road across---- duh-- from the airport--- had a few brewskis there in May while my wife was getting hair and nails done at Marie Antoinette Salon--- Maries- is right next door to La Guna Restaurant---and Fathom is a few doors down(up) the road toward Maho--- met the owner-- nice guy-- menu looked pretty basic-- they did have curried goat as a lunch special-- if that means any

OK- this is my third time trying to ppst---Marie Antoinette has three salons-one at the Wyndham Saphire in Cupecoy -- one at 100 Airport Road across from the airport and next the LaGuna restuarant----- and one INSIDE the airport in the arrivals area---my wife had hair and nails done at the airport road facility back in May and was extremely satisfied---Marie is the "appointed stylist to the

I am no authority on this never having stayed at Beach Plaze or the French side---but yes they are on 220 and you will need a converter----if they provide a hairdryer-- it will be plugged into the rooms 220-- so that may be something you need not bring--- as far as washers and dryers-- everything on the French side would be 220---and you would not need a converter--to wash your clothes--- just so

I agree with Pat about Food Express-- and if you can get a parking space right in front--- you can probably lock and leave your car--- they have a security right at the entrance----stolen vehicles are rare I think but break ins are fairly common---I have seen some posters refer to Food express as a "mini-mart"--- it's much more than your usual 7-11 convenience store--- it is not as

At La Terrasse where we stayed from May 11-23--- as a renter-- we had daily maid service-- in the resort hand book-- it stated that maid service for time share owners was mid week--and daily was at an additional charge--I'm not sure how many times they changed the bedding--- but they made the bed-- washed any dishes that were in the sink--swept and washed the floor--took out the trash (Read

Hey Barbar1--- what are they looking for??? does this included food items-- such as frozen meats that I know some people like to take (not that I would)--boooze -cigarettes (which is stupid since those products are much cheaper on the island-- unless someone has a particularly preference for- let's say some brand of scotch that is unavailable on SXM- chbpod
