Reported Robbery

I find it strange that the report of a robbery of a simpson bay cafe, which asks for persons with info to contact police, never mentions the name of the cafe. People may not know the relevance of what they may have seen if they don't know which cafe it is. There was a robbery somewhere, please report any info? I would laugh if it wasn't so sad.

WWII,

That's funny - I just finished reading the same article and had basically the same thought - "How would you know if you saw something suspicious if you didn't even know you were in the right location?" Sounds like someone needs to brush up on newspaper crime reporting 101.

"Island time", it'll be in the next article.

i just thought of something
maybe the "cafe" asked for their name to be left out of the news report??
bad publicity for them.
Ya think?

Barbara,

Anything's possible and that may very well be the case but I was left thinking they truly wanted anyone who may have seen anything to contact the police. So again I ask, how would you know what you saw, if you didn't know where you should have been seeing it?

Huh?

While the cafe might not want to be mentioned by name, I think the newspaper should do it. Why report it at all. Now it's bad publicity for every cafe in Simpson Bay.

That's why we stay and eat on the French side. The Dutch side, and Phillipsburg and Simpsom Bay most often, crime is out of control.

that is an unfair statement
Unfortunately there is crime everywhere on the island, but you cannot make a blanket statement that crime is out of control on the Dutch side but not the French side.

I agree Pat. I thought it was very weird also. And having lived in that area, I was curious as to which cafe was robbed.
Maybe we will find out thru the Coconut Telegraph.
Get on it B.

The only time I was the victim of any crime it was on the French side. My hotel room was robbed, lost everything of value that I didn't have with me.

Weirdest part: Early in the week, I took photos of my patio just for mementos. The last night of my stay I was robbed while out, and someone had slit the screen, lifted out (and taken away!) two louvers, and opened the door.

Weeks later I was looking at my photos, and noticed in the patio ones that it clearly showed that my screen was already slit early in the week, and the two missing louvers were already crooked in their distorted brackets.

In other words, I wasn't the first victim, and the thief had taken the louvers so as to replace them later. The hotel owner told me that 'no one has ever been robbed here before.' But she was clearly nervous when the police showed up.

Upshot: It was fairly clear to me that room charges are not the only profit center for the hotel....
