Hey!

As a footnote: Food Express also has a breakfast and lunch buffet, GREAT wrapped sandwiches made on premise, imported cookies, a decent supply of bread and pastry and a full small freezer (near the front) containing ETNA local ice cream. It will survive a drive as it's like a ROCK when you buy it.

A"bag boy" is sometimes stationed at the cash register and he will pack your purchases. It is customary to give him a small tip for his service, usually your small change or a buck. Prices are in NAF ( Florins) and $$$$. Look at the tags and don't get sticker shock if you only see Florins. ( NAF). Your real $$$ price will be 1/2 plus about 10%. ( 10 NAF = $5.50 ) (APPROX. conversion)

U.S. currency is the norm for Dutch side tourists....

Enjoy !

Denis

I have several questions and was hoping to get some help from the island experts.

We are traveling in June 2010 and staying in the Terra Basses area. I would like to know the closest and most convenient grocery store and most importantly would like to understand the selection of supplies. We have a daughter who has really bad egg allergies and need shop for food that she can eat. Secondly, is it possible to pack dry perishables and bring them with us from the US or is this prohibited.

Lastly, if anyone knows of a website that would have answers to these types of questions that would be great as well.

Thanks in advance.

Moe

you can bring anything with you that you like

the best and largest supermarkets are
Grand Marche Cole bay
Grand Marche Bush Road
both on the Dutch side.
the one in Cole Bay is on the road to Marigot, so would be closet to the Terre basses area.
There is also Match supermarket in Marigot.

I used Food Express @ the Maho round about last week and was happy with the selection and prices. They are also open until 11:00 p.m., and probably the closest to Terres Basses. IMO anything you need can be found on the island, I wouldn't bother packing any food for the trip.

Could someone give me easy driving directions to the Grand Marche Cole Bay from the Flamingo Beach Resort? Thank you.

When you arrive at the bottom of the Pelican Hill on billy Folley Rd you make a right on welfare rd. You stay on until the new round about they made, when you hit the round about, you go straight, you do not take the first way out toward Philipsburg and up the hill. Then you stay on that street all the way up to Gd marche which will be on your left just after the Texaco gas station located at Caribean Auto sales.

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Moe - by the time you travel, there is the slim possiblity that the new grand marche will be open in the Blue Mall right in Cupecoy, that would be the best for you.

Actually, it's a Gourmet Marche at Puerto Cupecoy. Rumors of opening in the next week or two are floating around.

The sign is up!

By June, it really SHOULD be open. LOL
