What about taxes? are they included in the price like in Europe, or you have to add it to the price as in States?

I dont think there are any taxes on this island. Theres a departure fee but its included in plane tix and theres the mealtime turnover tax on dutchside but thats supposed to be payed by the restraunt and not the guest. There are hotel room taxes and there charged just like anywhere else. If your talking about sales tax on merchanise there is none at all. Does this help and I hope I've got this right.

Thanks, Anon. It helps. Does the tax is applied to car rentals?

varde,

Anon has pretty much answered your questions but to the last one, yes, there is a tax on car rentals and I believe it's either seven or eight percent of the rental cost. The only other real tax that comes to my mind is the hotel tax (or timeshare tax which is actually a flat charge) but unfortunately, it's been a long time since we've done a seperate hotel rental and I'm really not sure of the amount charged on St. Maarten.

Respectfully,

pat
:-) :-)

There also is a turnover tax charged on the profit businesses make. Usually this is incorporated into the price but sometimes you do see it added on.
