Going to St. Maarten in April, need advice

We are 3 couples that will be arriving to the island for a sailing cruise out of Simpson Bay for 7 nights. We are all arriving at different times, but need a room for 1-2 nights before the cruise and up to 4 nights on the return. We are looking for suggestions and want to keep the cost down as we already have a lot invested in our vacation. I checked with Royal Turtle, but can you swim in the lagoon and will it be very noisy there? I know some places want you to book for a week and we can't do that. Thanks for any help you give us.

No, you can't swim in the lagoon.

Try Turquoise Shell Inn or Les Balcons

Try Mary's Boon or the Flamingo Resort. Both are very nice and right on the Ocean.

jeannie,

In a heartbeat, of the two, I'd stay at Marys Boon if it were available. It's reasonably priced, right on the ocean on a very quiet beach but still with it's own pool and honor bar and they have a great diningroom. How could you miss. RT's okay, too, but I'd rather be right on a swimmable beach.

Respectfully,

pat

thank you for the tip. I had actually considered Mary's Boon, but that is good news. I hope when we are there, we will get a chance to meet some of the people that chat on this site. It has been very helpful.

Mary's Boon receives my vote, wonderful secluded beach, no action there but that is one of the beautys of it. Tou can always hop in your car or take a taxi out to Airport Road where there are tons of restaurants and bars. MBs also has a dining room serving breakfast, lunch and dinner six days a week. Sunday is brunch only from 12 to 3. They have a honor bar where you make your own drinks. Resort is very quaint with a small pool and observation deck. Trees are obstructing the view of planes landing so you're better off on the beach watching them land and take off.

I'm a light sleeper and the noise doesn't bother me as the larger planes don't come in very early or leave too late.

Try Horny Toad. Great place. Quiet and right on Simpson Bay.
