Hi folks!

I am traveling to The Towers @ Mullet Bay this coming March 2007. I have been trying desperately to get a good idea of the towers yet it has been a real mixed group of reviews. Is it a nice place? I am just needing a great sun filled beach vacation with the cozy restfulness of a great bed and clean room...I need little, yet nice linens and a good shower is a must. The rest is sand and rum and a great book! Okay perhaps snorkeling, body surfing and working out if possible. What does the Towers really look like? All the photos seem the same...Help!!!!

Thanks for any info!

Kris

Kris,

It's hard to say if The Towers will appeal to someone else or not. We're owners and look forward to our weeks each year and obviously love it there. Others often aren't as enthusiastic and I can only think it's because their expectations are sometimes beyond the scope of time-sharing in the islands.

The property isn't hotel beachfront so you won't hear the waves. There are no restaurants on premises so you really need a car here. The pool is a quiet pool as opposed to boisterous and featuring an activities director out there - no morning calisthenics or afternoon volleyball - just a nice place to soak up some sun, have a drink and socialize or not as the spirit moves you.

Great linens? Well, plenty of nice thick bath towels and face cloths and nice beach towels; fresh sheets on arrival and a midweek change once during your stay and make the bed each day or not - your choice unless you're renting as a hotel guest as opposed to a timeshare guest and in that event, the bed linens will be changed daily and the beds made up daily. Quality of sheets - uh, they cover the bed and do the job they're meant for but if you're looking for 300 count you'll be greatly disappointed. Our mattresses have always been fine and I've never had a complaint but I've heard others complain so I guess it depends on what you like and what you're lucky enough to get.

The Shower? Plenty of hot water and lots of pressure, even on the uppper and penthouse floors so no problem there. If you're short, be careful exiting the tub/shower - it's a bigger step down than you think.

Sand and beach are a five minute walk - no more - across the course and you get free beach chairs on Mullet Bay Beach, where you can rent an umbrella if you choose and enjoy some awesome BBQ ribs at Rosie's if you're of a mind to. Nature of the beach can change daily.

Cleanliness of Towers? Never had a problem in all these years and don't expect to in the future. The maids do a very good job prepping the rooms and will take good care of you if you need something. We've never had a room that was less than immaculate although they are starting to show their ages. Anytime we've had a maintenance issue it's been immediately addressed 'island style'.....

The best part of The Towers for me are the balconies - love to have my a.m. coffee out there and watch the sun rise over the mountains. Love to sit out there in the afternoon and enjoy happy hour coctails. And most of all, like to come back from dinner and sit out there with a glass of wine and a good book and read for a half hour or so before bedtime.....perfecto.

It's a very quiet and relaxing place if that's what you're looking for. If you're looking for party central it would definitely NOT be a good choice.

Respectfully,

pat

Kris. Pat ought be a poet...she describes the Towers, our home away from home, perfectly. From the sounds of what you want...you will be really happy. As an aside...we've taken tours or stayed at of every other (no exaggeration here) timeshare resort on the island at one time or the other...and none come close to the scenic/well built/quiet/calm/serene/laid back/clean/courteous/and reasonably priced Towers and staff. Prejudice a little ?...of course!! Proud owner?...of course !! 'Nuff said. spike

ARE YOU A POET PAT ????????????

Why, thank you, Spike, for the very kind words. And no, no poet here just another very satisfied owner who was lucky enough to get what she wanted, when she wanted and fortunate to have been able to enjoy it all these years since then.

The Towers sure isn't for everyone but it works for us and has for all these years....the year we purchased, pre-construction, we went down to the island with every intention of buying a two bedroom villa on the island (at Mullet Bay Resort, specifically) and thank heavens we didn't. The Towers timeshare has been a very good thing for us and no regrets at all.

I think if Kris heeds the information posted throughout this entire thread she'll get a very good over-view of what the place is like and as I said, it works for me but that's no certainty it would work for everyone.

Again, thanks for the kind words.

Thanks everyone.

Especially Pat, the poet. I am so looking forward to our trip down there. I can tell that this will be a nice place to stay, and I was kidding about linens! smiling smiley

Is there a car rental agency you folks can recommend? Or should I stick with the standard ones I found online. I do not need anything special, just reliable.

Kris,

You're very welcome and I hope this premier trip is just the first of many yet to come. The very nice thing about St. Maarten/St. Martin is, IMHO, that you can "do it all" or "you can do nothing at all" and either way, you'll end up having a wonderful time.

Two words of caution, and this will apply to almost any location on the island, but particularly in the areas between Atlantis Casino and the Maho shops and restaurants - don't walk those roads at night. You might be tempted to walk to Atlantis from the Towers or to Maho from the Towers, and I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but it's just not a wise thing to do. And the other thing is don't leave stuff of any kind of value in your car, not locked in your glove compartment or even locked in your trunk. Sadly, there are gremlins on the island who have created a cottage industy of breaking into locked cars at the beaches and other locations, too, and stealing items that appeal to them that owners "thought" were safely locked out of sight in the trunks. I don't know how they do it but in a matter of minutes they can be into your car and out of sight, your possessions never to be seen again.

As to rental cars, there are many good ones and a few not so good. Personally, I've been using Lesley Bruce of Kennys Car Rentals for the past 5-6 years and find him to be really great to deal with and we're able to get our car at the airport through him. A simple email to him will get you a rate quote:

bruce@sintmaarten.net

The only rental company I've personally had a really bad experience with was Budget and that was a long time ago so who knows, perhaps they've cleaned up their act and gotten it all together by now.

If I can be of any further help, please don't hesitate to send me a private message here.

Respectfully,

pat
