On the French & Dutch sides there is no need to worry about tap water. Tap water is pefectly safe for drinking, showering, brushing teeth, making ice, washing dishes, and rinsing foods. Tap water is desalinated and purified on the island. The process is expensive, so most hotels/resorts stress water conservation.

During our last two trips to SXM, the French Side was carrying out drunk driving checks on a regular basis. We came across alcohol checks @ the French/Dutch Boarder towards Oyster Bay; heading to Grand Case by the Bounty Mart & airport speed bumps; and the Grand Case intersection near Portofinos's Lolo. They were pulling over random cars (rentals & residence). We were not stopp
