Been where only once or twice? I live here for 22 years.Been to these restaurants more than most and go on a regular basis. The question is still not resolved although you happily think it is. We have (unfortunately) to separate a 'service' charge from 'gratuity'. If a 'service' charge is included in the net price it is still not certain that the waiter or wait

Interestingly enough, Captain Oliver's is on BOTH sides. In fact, a border runs directly through the resort. Now as to which side of the line the restaurant falls on?

Great atmosphere but when I pay over $30 for a

Tipping can be a bit of a problem at restaurants for the following reasons. Many restaurants in St. Maarten/Saint Martin include a 15% tip on your bill. That’s not the problem. The problem begins with whether or not your waiter or waitress actually gets that tip. If your waiter or waitress does not, in actuality, get this tip and it’s the restaurant that’s “glomming” it, what do you do? You ca

If you're not cemented to the French Side, try Valentino's at the Simpson Bay Yacht Club. It opened about a month ago and it's a goodie. Great food, pictures of movie stars and did I say great food? Oh. Better have a reservation. Don't know if their phones are in yet but you can make the reservation by calling Jimbo's Grill at 544-3600.

This is great. Always wanted $5 million. Can you send me a certified check in the amount of $50,000 to prove your sincerity and we can proceed from there. This is, of course, only a drop in the bucket of the amount you've mentioned so should be no problem for you. Oh. Have someone proofread your open letter to correct the poor use of the English language. Is this Nigerian con still wor

Having been here for 22 years, I kinda miss the old airport and its charm but, unlike many, most of the time I spend at the airport is waiting for people to arrive and I have to tell you, the waiting process is much easier and infinitely more comfortable at the new one. More eateries, air conditioning, etc. I think they should have put in more (or some) seating in the waiting area (God knows they

Both sides of the island have much to offer and that means dining also. The Dutch Side is not limited to hamburger joints as many will attest. Try Jimbo's, Valentino's, Le Bec Fin, Pineapple Pete's, SkipJacks, The Wharf, Temptations, Rare and Citrus to name just a few. Some neat suggestions for alternate beaches to Orient (although I live here and I love Orient) would be Calmos Ca

There is a search engine that's exclusively for St. Maarten/St. Martin. You can go to www.zebrabot.com, type in villas and come up with a list of renters websites. Also, many of the Real Estate companies handle villa rentals so you can surf them also. I do recommend Jennifer's Vacation Villas as a good source.

Everybody has their own jeweler that they swear by but most are good and reputable. I agree with the posters that have suggested Caribbean Gems and Jewels by Love and Splash but Joe's, Little Europe, DK, Ballerina and Pearl Gems are good ones too as are many others.

The best and only way to get a timeshare is on the resale market. It is also the only way you can get a "Fixed" week which is important in a "destination specific" purchase. All the Resorts are now selling "points" programs which are great if you're buying a timeshare in Wisconsin but if you want to be assured of a particular unit in a particular week with no ha

Recent news indicates that the much anticipated rebuilding of hurricane damaged Mullet Resort on Sint Maarten may soon begin. Join us in urging the Island Government to protect the mangroves and seagrass beds of Mullet Pond, which forms the border of the resort property. Mullet Pond is an undeveloped area of the Simpson Bay Lagoon. This lagoon is one of the largest in the Caribbean, serving a
