The restaurant with the Palm Tree Philipsburg... Was it maybe the West Indian Tavern? The Dutch Queen might have dined there once so they could have called it the Royal West Indian Tavern.

The man in the kitchen of Zachary's was the owner as well, "Big Steve". I think he now manages a country club in Santa Barbara, CA.

Especially the service at Zachary's was great! Annemarieke and her sister used to work there. They might have served you She still raves about the Banana Cream Pie and Lemon Merenque Pie at Sam's place. Another one of her old time favorite restaurant is Le Pavillion in Simpson Bay on the water and the Sunday buffet at Le Gallion.

Just FYI, we delete messages here as well if we think they are inappropriate. We can chat for ours about the differences between here and there but it doesn't serve any other purpose then blowing off some steam. I kindly request that you don't put down members on other bulletin boards or make some silly generalizations. We have to respect each other. Thank you.

Thanks for all the responses. Have to try Antoine's then! Yes, I have been at the 'new' Holland House. The outside terrace is indeed very nice. Thought they served more appetizers then real meals, but I guess I am mistaken. Did have the 'Nieuwe Haring" (newly caught herring, the Dutch sushi, since it is eaten 'raw') there last time. Flown in direct fro

This is a great thread! And yes, the Cold KFC Heine tip is very useful. There use to be a Taco Bell with drive-through margaritas as well

It is very strange indeed, when you e-mail with someone for years and have never met in real life. When I visit some of the islands I often set up some kind of stormcarib local hurricane correspondent get-together. Sometimes they really look totally different from the image you have in your mind. Quite interesting actually! And of course, often they don't recognize me either.

Thanks for all the great replies on the 'new, must do restaurants' question. Plenty to choose from! Sorry for the late response. Have been camping with the family somewhere south of Santa Cruz. Very nice, but the water is soooo cold compared to the Caribbean... We also like to hang out on the boardwalk in Philipsburg. The kids can just run around while we enjoy our drinks. Is

We are coming to St.Maarten in July for a couple of weeks. I haven't been there in two years! What are some of the new restaurants we should visit? We are looking for 'child friendly' and for 'baby-sitter' time! I have to make sure to visit Captain's Olivers. Haven't been there in a long long time. Old time favorites are Le Cottage, Bistro Caraibes, Ciga

Looks like a lot more rain still coming... The Caribbean Sea is starting to warm up. But still a bit too early for big storms. I have a page on stormCARIB which shows where storms form for each month. In June it's mostly the Gulf of Mexico, quite a ways from the island. Hurricane Points of Origin

There are a couple of new condo complexes on Simpson Bay Beach. Las Arenas, Palm Beach, La Siesta indeed, Coco Beach... I keep editing this thing when I think of more. Just do look at this pricelist and search for Simpson Bay

Hi Raymond, good to see you here! It was fun living in the Jetty. Park the car on the beach in front of your house . Little noisy with Two for Tuesdays at the Greenhouse but it made for great people watching from the balcony.

Nope, it's not Colombier. I expected people to guess that or Lotterie Farm. But it is indeed Pic Paradis! There are some nice trails up there. Plus the views of course! Two more pictures of beautiful St.Martin... And sorry Augie, Alec in blue, Carlo in green. It's hard to see from the back.

The Fort near Marigot would be too easy. It is maybe that Fort near Little Bay. I think it is called Fort Oranje...

Yes, Barbara, these are our kids. They were four at that time and really loved this! They could hardly see a thing in front of them because the grass was so high, but managed to stay on trail (most of the time ). Bugs, critters? On a green, tropical island? To make it a bit easier ... here another picture, a little bit zoomed out, taken a bit earlier on our walk.

Here is another one. Not a picture from the past but from 2 years ago. It shows that the island is not built up everywhere but that there are still plenty of pretty spots Where on the island did we hike through the jungle?

I think you are right. Maybe when you stand on top of the pink tower you can see St.Barts? Here a zoomed in Google Map

It sounds impossible. I often lose track of direction well on an island. But Anguilla is pretty long. Check out this Google Map and you will see that indeed on some spots you can see both Anguilla and St.Barts. The middle island in St.Maarten/St.Martin, the long 'eel like' is Anguilla (hence the name), and the one on the bottom St.Barts.

1. Where is the SSSS supermarket? We think it is where the library is now, at the end of Back Street, next to the Sundial School... Btw, the hint in Dutch was useless ("My technical nightschool will be behind the supermarket" ) since it never panned out. 2. Hotel list pre-1969: Some rates were scribbled in the margin by my father-in-law, the Sea View rate apparently went up from $

You are all doing really well! I will post the list later tonight. The Great Bay Hotel (originally named ... ) isn't even on there. I just saw an ad for it in the guide: Ready for you in the spring of 1969. So my guide is pre-1969, not 70s. China Night Guest House isn't on there Barbara. Sounds a bit shady
