Numbers were thrown out without facts...

it is 90 Euros for not wearing a seatbelt, and the fine regarding speeding depends on the speed over the limit...:

If they catch you driving between 1Km per hour and 19km per hour (0.62 mph to 11.81mph) above the speed limit in town the penalty will be 375 Euros (and if you have a french driving license, you loose 1 point on it...)...

If the catch you out of town driving also between 1kmph and 19kmph above speed limit the fine will be 180 Euros (and also one point penalty on your driving licence if you have a French one)...

If they catch you driving between 20kmph and 49kmph (12.43mph and 30.45mph) above authorised speed limit the fine will be also 375 Euros , but if you are French you loose between 2 to 4 point on your license...

And finally, If the catch you driving above 50kmph (31mph) above authorised speed limit the fine will be 1500 Euros and up to 6 points on your driving license...

In any case if you drive 30kmph (18.64mph) and/or more above the speed limit you also risk a 3 years suspension of your driving license.

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Philippe, this is good information! Here in the states, we almost always can drive up to 10 MPH over the speed limit without being concerned about a ticket. You mention 1 KPH over the limit. Is it common to be stopped for such a small infraction, or is there a little more leeway?

well , here in sxm , so far it is not commun, but in France mainland, yes... sometime you are even not stopped, the gendarmes have hidden radars along side the roads, and the radars do their job...If you are above the speed limit, doesn't matter how much, the radar will photograph your vehicule with the speed labeled alongside, and then you will receive your fine or your convocation to court through mail...
That said, it may become also like that here in sxm, since it is part of France, and they have full right to implement the law. I am a slow driver so I don't care and I find that great! Less criminal behind the wheel...

Kind Regards,
Philippe
