Hey, Isn't that the plane that used to deliver bread from PR to SXM a few days a week.

Barbara, I was thinking about how wonderful it used to be only having Lands Radio telephone service. And those wonderful ladies that handled all the international & local calls.Compared to now with recorded computor calls annoying people everyday to purchase something. No call lists and salespeople cold calling your phone while having dinner, etc.Back in those DAYS it was normal for a long distance call to take an hour or longer to connect.I enjoyed talking to those ladies and when they would call back with your line.You really felt as though you were on a carib island and time didn't matter.Remember they used to interupt your call and tell you how many minutes you were on the line.Great Days on SXM before it was discovered.

Now Bob..that's one thing I didn't think was so charming.
it was frustrating instead of charming.
an hour try 2 hours.
try all day. sometimes they never called you back. sometimes you just couldn't get through at all.
we had to deal with that every day. when you dealt with it all the time, it ceased being charming.

Barbara, Yes I can understand how difficult it was for residents sometimes. As a visitor it was a totally different experience for us.We knew being in a hurry wasn't going to make it faster. Or expecting to call at a certain time wasn't possible.We figured out not to worry about time and enjoy ourselves until they made the connection on island time.HaHa

Barbara, I think you told me before but I forgot the reason. Why did the little cafe close on Front St.I know the name but I can't recall the spelling .My cousin and I went in once and passed it everytime we were in town.

why did it close? progress I guess.
my brother in law decided to renovate and make stores and sit back and collect the rent.
what can I say?

WOW,Thats it great picture.It still looked like the photo in the late 70's & early 80's. Well I guess I can't blame him for sitting back and collecting rents.If I recall the outside was painted Orange or orange/yellow.Thanks

in that picture actually which is quite old, the doors were wooden and in a natural wood color. later on they painted it orange and it looked like this.

Re this picture - back in 73-74 era, didn't Cannegie Liquors offer sample tastings of its liquid merchandise in little itty bitty plastic glasses almost like communion glasses? I'm almost certain we enjoyed Cannegie's as early as our first trip and that's the thing I remember most clearly. I guess it could have been another place but for some reason I think it was here....it looks so familiar and strikes a pleasant recollection of younger, wilder days......

yes, my dear, we did that for awhile. but the place that did that big time was Julio's smoke and booze which was right near us. He had a whole tasting bar set up. maybe that's where you were.

Barbara, Those are the colors I was thinking about. Not bad after 30 yrs, right!I can't believe how many times we walked and drove past the Cafe. And across the street was my favorite place Portofino's. How is your she coming along with the book about Mr. Booker(sp) I know wrong name but I'm close I think.I loved talking with him in that alleyway to the restaurant.I'll never forget his Citroen parked right in front of his place.As I recall the Cafe was always crowded during the day. Did it stay open into the evenings?

Used to get my haircuts at the cafe back in the early 70's. Those were the days!!!! A hair cut at the cafe and an ice cream from Risdon's.
