First time in SXM

My fiance and I will be in SXM in June for our honeymoon. I was wondering what part of the island is the best for nightlife. I know that there are a lot of bars but we are looking for one with a younger crowd. Also we are thinking of staying at the Pasanggrahan Hotel in Philipsburg, but I was wondering how safe the area is around the hotel. (Also wondering about the nightlife in Philipsburg) Neither of us have been to the island before and would appreciate any information anyone could give us.
Thanks

Nikki

Hi Niklet81,

How long are you here for your honeymoon? I recommend the Maho area for nightlife and dining. The Royal Islander is very nice and next door to that is the Maho Sonesta.
Cheers

As long time island visitor I agree with IrinaL. Theres a spa at Sonesta and lots of shopping and dining and loads of nightlife right there in the area and clubs and bars or stay inside Maho grounds and its peaceful and wonderful. Love to walk the grounds at night and here the waves crash on the rocks.

Hi Niklet81,

You know what, I think I would be inclined to absolutely agree with Irina's post, too. She lives on the island and knows it well. But since she's a friend and because I already like that area around Maho, I might be just a bit prejudiced.

Sonesta Maho Beach Hotel is very nice and the area around it has many good restaurants, party spots, shops and even a casino within a 2-3 minute walk. The Maho Beach itself comes and goes but if it's gone while you're there, Mullet Bay is no more than an easy ten minute walk away and this is perhaps my favorite beach on the island. The pool at Maho is lovely and truthfully, I can't think of a negative about the place. We enjoy watching the planes land and we particularly enjoy the night time landings.

Congratulations on your up-coming wedding and your choice of St. Maarten as the island to honeymoon on.

Respectfully,

pat
:-) :-)

well, I guess I have to put in a plug for the Pasangrahan and Philipsburg.:-)
The Pasangrahan is a charming hotel right on the beach in Philipsburg..
the area is safe and the boardwalk is right there.. that is lined with beach bars and restaurants and is quite lively during the day and on weekend nights..
during the week Philipsburg is quiet though.
In that sense the Maho area is much more livelier at night..
