I heard that people cannot take shells from the Carribean islands anymore. I am talking about those big conch shells. I found a some several years ago on the island and brought them here,to my home, in the states now. Is this not possible anymore?
thanks Lerch

I can't speak for SXM but in July we were on Saint John and my wife and our friend were collecting broken coral from the shoreline and were told a story. A gentleman told them that he had been stopped at customs on his last trip and received a stern warning. He was held and almost missed his flight. Needless to say they put the coral pieces down.

yes, it is illegal to import seashells.or to take them...
especially the large queen conch shells which are endangered. There ar estill animals in many of those shells.
Even the smnall bits of coral.. Whenthey and small shells are taken from the seashores, it contributes to more beach erosion.
