in the us you need a passport to go everywhere (including canada) except for st
thomas and puerto rico which are part of the us virgin islands) as of 1/8/07. the only exception is if your are travelling by boat and starting and ending in the states. by next year you will have to have a passport for that too

You will definitely need a passport to get back into the US.
