Does it smell "fishy" near Orient Bay?

Hi everyone--I hope you'll forgive what seems like a weird question!

I'm considering renting a villa in Orient Beach called Villa Comtesse.

It looks like it's right on a section of marshy area. And I remember there being a bad, fishy smell as we drove up to Orient Beach the last time I was there, around this area. Has anyone experienced this? It was my favorite spot, once we drove past the smell. Was that just an off day?

We'll be traveling in July.

This link has a map, where you can see the exact location of the villa.

What do you think? Stinky or I have a bad memory and am being silly?

Thanks! Nina

Anywhere near a salt pond or any pond with vegetation growing in it will sometimes smell "fishy". It's the smell of decaying vegetation.

Thanks, Elaine---I understand. Has anyone noticed whether staying right near the salt pond, that the smell is distracting/comes into the house, etc.?

I just remember noticing it while driving -- which didn't really bother me, but if it filled my house for a week, it might.

Thanks again! Nina

Yeah, I think it would be really bad after about 15 minutes! Wish I could help with the location of your choices.

So, I heard back from the villa rental owner---they say there is "honestly no smell" and that the area of pond near the villa is quite dry. It didn't sound like they were just putting me off or whitewashing it.

If you click the VRBO.com link in my original post, you can see the map exactly where the villa is.

It right on the edge of the pond, near the main road leading to Orient Beach.

Thx! Nina

The only odor I've ever experienced is coming in thru the Club O road. Other than that there's never been an odor. We've rented in Orient for years! Good luck!
