Hi Phillipe: I'm sorry I missed you at the restaurant last Thursday. I have a question, though. As a Rastafarian/American, am I afforded any special rights on St. Martin? What if I only seek employment as a beach bum? Can I get a housing allowance, and social benefits?

ROFLMAO !!! You are hysterical Randy! Well already as a home owner on the French side you are untittled to a "carte de sejour" (permanent resident status.. well permanent for 2 years renewable up to 10 as long as you still own I beleive) but you are not allow to work. As far as housing allowance, I am not sure Villa Belle Mar will qualify into the program but you always can try... never know! LOL... if they do not look at it too closely...>grinning smiley<
For social benefit, you need to be French citizen, or if not, you must to be legal resident with work permit (and a job..), pay into the social security system and be sure that your employer did put you on the book and pay his share to the SS also... after that it is all paperworks... a lot of paperwork getting lost within the different French administrations...LOL

Kind Regards,
Philippe
