Answers of 'Another SXM quiz...'

1. Where is the SSSS supermarket?
We think it is where the library is now, at the end of Back Street, next to the Sundial School... Btw, the hint in Dutch was useless ("My technical nightschool will be behind the supermarket" ) since it never panned out.

2. Hotel list pre-1969:
Some rates were scribbled in the margin by my father-in-law, the Sea View rate apparently went up from $38 to $60 at some unknown time. Two other new hotels, of which I have no clue where they are, were also written down later.
(Barbara: I was mistaken, your China Night place is listed).

Hunter House! That was the one I mentioned. Hunter House was in Pointe Blanche. After it was closed, it was opened as rental apartments I believe and that is where the famous Zachary's was. Oh, those ribs.

4 S supermarket?
actually, Gert, that was located next to where the Jump Up casino is now. It was in the building that now holds the offices of
Notary Gijsbertha. The Dominican Consulate is there now too...right next to Jump Up casino.
and, yes, look what is listed! My famous China Night Guesthouse! smiling smiley
Oh, I have fond memories of that place !

I think what your father in law wrote down as Parker Hotel is actually the Concord Hotel. It was owned by the Parker family.
The other one I never herd about.

neat old brochure. thumbs up

Ah, yes, Caravanserai was NO CHILDREN. For many years my sister and I had to stay home when my parents went there for Sunday brunch or dinner/drinks. Funny, though, I looked older so I could get into the casinos at age 14.... but still couldn't get into the Caravanserai!

a friend of mine just emailed me. Holiday Inn was Mullet. I am not sure if it actually ever operated as that but for a short time it was supposed to be a Holiday Inn.
