We were contemplating a trip in July or August. Can we expect most restaurants to be open, or does the island function like Europe,with many places closed in August? Any difference between the French or Dutch sides? Thanks for the help!

Most restaurants close in September. Few one close either in July,or August.

I travel in the July/August time frame each year. Some restaurants are closed in Grand Case, but many are open. They are less crowded at this time, so we usually do not have to make reservation far in advance. Usually, we just make reservations a day ahead of time out of courtesy. There was only one restaurant that we chose last year that was closed. Sorry, I forgot the name. A couple of the restaurants in Grand Case that we found open were Chez Martine and Rainbow Cafe. They were excellent. It appears that most restaurants as Enzo stated said that they would be closed in September.

Thanks for your responses. In the past we have travelled in May and October, and weren't sure about July or August, although we've told the weather is just as nice during those two months. Thank you again.

There are many differences between the two sides. You feel like you are in two different countries. We liked staying on the Dutch side and playing on the French side!

We are thinking about taking our honeymoon to st. martin at the end of july and beginning of august. How is the weather during that time?
