I am hoping to find a good price - better than in the States. Is this possible?

sometimes it is. depending on the product.. sometimes the prices are close but then you save because you don't pay sales tax.. so shop around before you travel so you know what the prices are..and remember you can bargain
check out some of the other electronic stores too and see what the prices are like

make sure that you have with you the exact model that you want to buy, and price. for my own exeperience, these stores can not compete with the price in Usa as far as model and warrante. Clip out the ads from circuit city, and all kinds all electronic stores that offer sales, now once in sxm, if the store can give you a better price for the same model you have a deal , if not forget about it. Remember to look at the box , sometimes they are already been open!!!

As the previous posts suggest, an educated consumer is the best customer/
Know what you want, model #, voltage, etc. Compare costs at home, try the internet or a big citys Sunday Newspaper for costs first and do bring the advert or print out the specific item and bring it with you.
AND make sure that "they" are selling you a NEW item, some stores do sell reconditioned items-I repeat SOME stores. Most stores are very professional, my place to shop for electronics here is Boolchands on Front Street.
Happy shopping!

ANTIA.. I HAVE SHOPPED FOR YEARS ON THE ISLANDS,, AND I REALLY FEEL THAT THE 'DUTY FREE' ERA IS LONG GONE.. EVER SINCE THE ASIANS HAVE TAKEN OVER SO MANY SHOPS ON THE DUTCH SIDE, THEIR IDEA OF 'DUTY FREE' IS NO STATE SALES TAX ( NOT FEDERAL )..BUT WHERE I LIVE I CAN GO TO DELAWARE FOR 'TAX FREE SHOPPING AND PICK UP A CAMERA ON SALE AT A BETTER PRICE,, AND IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG WITH IT , I CAN RETURN IT,, EVEN IF YOU CANT GET TO DELAWARE,, I WOULD SERIOULSY CONSIDER not BUYING A CAMAERA IN THE ISLANDS.. IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG.. WHERE CAN U TURN TO..
BEST ..MIKE
