Weekend Weather

Well our long awaited visit to your island paradise is finally here. What timing....

Due to arrive on American Airlines from San Juan at 1:40 PM Friday.

Can anyone on the island give me your take on Dean's current track and when or if the airlines might shut down as the storm approaches.

Also any other advice dealing with severe weather on St Martin.

Thanks

Jack and Linda

hi
well, I can't speak for the airlines.
they are very fickle.
The island is preparing for dean but it does look like Dean will come through south of us.
but the mets are not saying we are totally out of the woods.
It does look good for us right now, but they still don't know when the storm will turn more WNW.
the official forecast positions right now are:
FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS

INITIAL 15/1500Z 12.4N 46.0W 50 KT
12HR VT 16/0000Z 12.7N 48.6W 55 KT
24HR VT 16/1200Z 13.1N 52.2W 60 KT
36HR VT 17/0000Z 13.7N 55.8W 65 KT
48HR VT 17/1200Z 14.2N 59.2W 75 KT
72HR VT 18/1200Z 15.5N 66.0W 85 KT
96HR VT 19/1200Z 16.5N 72.0W 95 KT
120HR VT 20/1200Z 18.0N 78.0W 105 KT

that puts it south of us, but we also are still in the cone of possibilities. so no direct hit, I don't think, but probably wind, rough seas, and squally weather as dean passes.

I doubt your plane will take off if theres any chance of it running into trouble on the arrival end of the storm. If your connecting through another location you might have a problem even if all things good on st martin.

I am planning to arrive on Saturday, August 18. Has there been any disruption of power on the island, and in general, what is the state of the island today? Your response will be appreciated.

everything is fine on the island. we have very windy and squally conditions but all is operating normally.
I don't know about the airlines but the airport is open.
This will all be over by tomorrow.
